AMD Cats 24p setup *New problem help needed*

Getting my new Sony KDL40V4000 on Thursday and i was just wondering how i need to setup the drivers on my HTPC. It's currently at 1360x768@60Hz to match my current Samsung TV.

Do i need to change the refresh rate to 24hz or anything or will the TV just recognise the 24p blurays and playback accordingly.

I'm using old Cats at the moment (8.4) they do the job. Is it worth updating to a newer version?

TIA. :)

Should just be able to add 1080p/24 to the list of outputs on your HDMI via the CCC, i'm pretty sure it would be there in a version that old still. If not, update!

Should be about it, make sure your tv is set to 24hz if you need to, some samsungs do i know.

The new ATi CCC does not have an option to auto change frequencies.

You need to setup "profiles" within CCC and then change to them as and when you need them.

I have 2 profiles setup; 1 for 24hz when watching HD content and 1 for 60Hz for when using the HTPC normally. I switch between the 2 using "hot keys"; "Alt+1" for 24Hz and "Alt+2" for 60Hz.
You shouldnt need to change anything on the TV (apart from enabling 24Hz - if required) because the TV will automatically recognise it as it is supported.

They are easy to setup. Report back if you have any problems.

Thanks photoshop!! Tbh i spent most of my time messing with Nvidia drivers and therefore i didn't have a clue. :p I'll post back here if i have any problems on Thursday.

I've got the same, but set desktop shortcuts to 24hz and 60hz with CCC. I've also set media centre to automatically run at 50Hz, to stop juddering of normal video.

Incidentally, I've got the sony 40d3500, and I can't for the life of me get it to automaticlally fit the image to the screen. At 60Hz, it needs to be set to "full pixel", and at 24hz I need to change the "display area" to 2. I'm not sure if you'll have the same problem, but if you find a way to get it sorted, please let me know. At 24hz also the picture seems a little blured, which strikes me as odd as it should be 1:1 pixel mapped.

Blurred?!?! This doesn't sound good at all. Hope i don't run into these problems as the TV will amost certainly be going back.

I'll hopefully get a post up by tomorow night once i've had chance to play around with it.

ATi seem to enable overscan by default...I spent ages fiddling before I realised there was an overscan setting in CCC as well as on the TV! Turned it all off, set it to 1080p/24, and it's sooo gooood :D

It turns out I was just being stupid, this thread spurned me on to have another look at the problem last night, and it turns out CCC was defaulting to a 15% overscan at 24hz, and 8% at 50Hz, no idea why but now its nice and perfect, so thanks for bringing it up :)

Argh! I spoke too soon! SD playback via a upscaling DVD player is fine. HDRip in mkv format is fine even at super high bitrates, but when i play a BluRay disc i get slight stutters to the video every now and then like my PC can't handle it or something.

Any help??? :(

update: OK, something weird which might help in finding a solution. Just played 300 again, and the first time i noticed the stutter was on the begining intro of the movie with the WB logo and i saw the clouds in the background stutter. Just played the disc again and no stutter at the begining.

I got some pretty bad stutter and occasionally the picture would get stuck in a stutter loop with the sound continuing on as normal.

Only way I found to cure it was to untick write combining in Hardware acceleration and always give the computer a fresh reboot before starting a film.

Not sure why I need to do this some Blurays play perfect but I have most issues with HD DVDs.

Every 40 seconds, do you get a slight pause?

Yea. Changing my CCC driver has fixed the stuttering problem. :) I just get a random blip here or there. Can by 10-20 mins or so before one occurs and it's blink and you'll miss it.

What CATS are you using mate? I have the same issue and experimented with Reclock which in turn screws up the lip sync as I cannot get the SPDIF working correctly.
