AMD Cool and Quiet???

it basically controlls the power output by your pc but ups it when you need it.
if you want your pc running at full power permanently, turn it off

personnally, turn it off, the option to do so is in the bios somewhere

by turning it off does that damage the CPU?
What sort of temps should I be seeing on the CPU;
my idle is 29c, but not sure how to generate a load temp?

Just play a game for an hour or so. Maybe run Prime95 or something.

siders, how did you overclock go after ?

Not very well. I couldn't for the life of me find where to change the HTT.

did you have a good look around the bio, usually in the advanced option or cpu options, generally set to auto and have the choice of x1 - x5??

you said you were using the abit 3rd eye board right? im o/cin a friends pc tomorrow i think and he has the same board so if i find it i'll let you know where the option is if you havnt got it by then

I wanted to test this feature out but I'm not quite sure if its working?

I have it enabled in BIOS and installed the Cool n Quiet driver:

Now how long does the PC have to be idle for it to drop the Multi?

I expecting to see the MHz reading in CPU drop after I leave the CPU idle, but nothing so far?

Is there a little user interface/app somewhere or?

It only works when you have the power setting in windows set to minimal, ie right click desktop then select properties, select screensaver tab and press the power button at the bottom and set power scheme to minimal power management.

cheers! :)

cool and quiet works by slowing the cpu speed so that when it runs hot it will slow it down so that it will run at a lower temp, if u have a fan that is speed variable with the temp of the cpu then it should run 'quiet'.

So disable it as it is just slowing down ure cpu if anything.

Worse than that I believe it messes with the vcore (on the Abit AV8 at least) so if your overclock requires raised vcore it really isn't a good idea.

Additionally, C&Q is behind some of the synch/timestamp problems affecting dual core systems. The /usepmtimer boot option added by the cpu driver fixes this in many cases, but some peeps need the MS hotfix as well.

Hmm I dunno seems like a handy thing (for a non-overclocked rig),

I enabled Cool n Quiet in BIOS, set the HTT-Divider to auto, set the vCore to auto and the CPU-Multi to auto, installed the WinXP driver, and set power-management to minimal

Didn't play with the fan setting yet, the one that should slow down or shut-off the CPU fan. .
