Amd core "unlocking"

My friend has offered me a phenom x 2 550be (80w tdp) which will unlock to a phenom x4 b50 , i am wondering does it change the tdp of the cpu my motherboard is a asrock n68c-s with a total of 95w tdp,

Probably will since there's extra cores, to 95w/125w looking at the X4s with the same speed.

You can do a partial unlock to three cores if you're worried four cores will be too much for the board to handle.

okay cheers thats what i thought good to have confirmation , but if i did unlock would the motherboard have some sort of overload protection??

With your board it should be fine. If it's too much for the board to handle it will just power down and probably be a normal crash. Worst case scenario would be the MOFSETs going on fire but that should be unlikely with 4 cores, and you have some heatsinks on them too to prevent them from overheating.
