AMD CPU £120 budget..

if the chip is for gaming, save the change and buy a 955, will easily clock to 4Ghz and beyond depending on your board and cooling,

the hexcore would only bring perks in video encoding etc etc ;)

1075T would be good if your doing stuff that takes advantage of 6 cores or want something future proof for the next couple of years. If you decide to go for a quad get a 955 and oc it. Infact if you want a hex you could save some money on a 1055T.

Yes it will be primarily for gaming :)

May I ask what motherboard you have got?

Ofc, GA-MA770-UD3

If I were to OC the 955 to say 4Ghz what kind of cooler would I be looking at?

I have the Artic Freezer Pro 7 (I think :P)

or pick up a 2nd hand 955, can be had for around 50-60 now 2nd hand, great chip for the money, make sure its a C3 stepping, not C2 ;)

Correct. So new board?

Edit: Spec me a mobo haha :p

I am not trying to push you into a new board just saying with 4+2 generally don't go above 125w cpu's so any overclocking would be at about stock volts.
Here is a thread all about it.

As for a board look for one with 8+2.

well I've been running an ma 770ud3 am2+ rev 2.0 on an overclocked a4 620 @ 3.6ghz , then I unlocked my x4 b55 and ran that at 4.2 now 4.0ghz at 1.52v/1.50 v core, ddr 2 @1000 and the nb-cpu is at 2750.

The board is almost 2 years old, and never had an issue with 4+1 vrms.
The rev 2 officailly supported a 140w cpu, now im not sure if the rev2.1 is weaker or the same but they are trying to put a safety margin on the max tdp?

Jayster is right in what he's saying, but the c3 stepping is a lot more efficient and i think you could get away with overclocking a 955 on your board, but prepared to keep an eye out on the power phase side of things.
