Looking for a AMD motherboard with 2400MHz memory support which can also have crossfire on it.

Since I will be buying a R9 280 soon I may want to double up in a year or two.

Been looking at the good value AMD FX CPU's. My only draw back is the power usage.

While most people might slap me silly for thinking about AMD rather than Intel for the next generation of MMO games I can't happen to ignore that games like Dungeon & Dragons Neverwinter uses Multi threading Optimization.

But I will cut to the chase. The up coming game Star Citizen is being developed on CryEngine which is optimized up to 8 cores.

So in terms of Motherboard I need something which will work best with 8 core performance.

I trust the team at OCUK can recommend me some good stuff but I thought Id ask forum members first :D.

Crosshair V formula z is your best bet, have run my ram faster than 2133 before, especially with bus clocking.

AMD cpus are good on multi-threaded applications for the price, but if you can afford an unlocked i5 id go for that instead

The thing now is, the board being recommended, the Asus Crosshair V Formula Z is £170 which is going to wipe out any saving on the cpu so you may as well go with a 4690K and a board such as the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 3 which only costs £104 or even the Gigabyte Z97X-SLI which costs even less at £93. They will overclock exactly the same as a £150+ board because with Haswell the cpu is the limiting factor.

i would seriously reccommend going the intel route. i went from the fx8350 to the i7 4790k. Completely blows amd out of the water.

in regards to mantle its a GPU based tech has nothing to do with processors.

other option is wait to star citizen is launched and look at the benchmark results. Will probably find the game will be optimised for intel over AMD.

Guildwars 2 recently got optimised for intel and ive seen 100+% increase on my FPS because of this and because of my recent upgrades.
