AMD declining R&D budget....

The console itself it just a gateway though, isn't it? I mean once bought you have to pay to play online, then there's the PSN store, Netflix and whatever other services that no doubt give Sony some commission.

I have no idea why I'm mentioning this in the GPU section though :p

There is no way they make that kind of money. Total sales of the PS4 and Xbox One from launch is close to the 30 Million mark.

$100x30000000 = $3,000,000,000

3 Billion in less than 1 1/2 years... nope

He's paid by AMD to only post good things (about AMD) on forums. He must know the profits on large volume orders.

(tbh, wouldn't be surprised with AMD if they were making a few pence per unit sold)

They withdrew because they couldn't beat AMD's solution, what did they even have to offer at the time? Tegra 2? Fermi? LOL.

They knew what the margins would be from the get-go. They were in the original Xbox.

Just a GPU most likely which meant Sony/MS would have had to go with another vendor for CPU anyway and Intel are just as expensive as NVidia, it's been made clear that Sony/MS's aim this time around was to make a profit from the get go rather than spending 1-2yrs making a loss on every console like previously, if they had been aiming for performance they'd have likely gone Intel for CPU as the 8 core Jaguar can barely maintain 30fps in most games.

Figures pulled out of nowhere?

Have you got a link to back that up, as that seems very high.

its all over the internet, here it is from the same source.

IHS thinks CPU/GPU supplier AMD is receiving $100 per PS4 unit. If reasonably accurate, that figure could mean AMD is also receiving ~$100 from Microsoft for each Xbox One produced, given the PS4 and One rely on very similar AMD Jaguar processors.

I remember reading that there was some kind of fallout between ms and nvidia over pricing of the gpu's after a few years (didn't come down in cost to what it was meant to or something like that), apparently one of the reasons they went amd for the 360.
