If legit, that is a massive improvement. AMD could be onto a real winner here...
 
If it's still using DDR3 for the memory bus then nope it's going to be disappointing.

Um... You expect Kaveri to use DDR5 system ram? FM2+ is DDR3 based, I'm not sure what you expected tbh..

Anyway, it looks set to have about 3 times the GPU power than Richland, so impressive to most people :p. Be interesting to see how much better the Steamroller based CPU cores are as well. Kaveri has awesome potential.

It certainly won't be pointless having more than 512 GCN Cores. The more the better, that goes for CPU cores as well.

It's easy to be negative about stuff, obviously we would all like dedicated GPU like performance from a cheap all in one package, but let's take a reality check for a minute. DDR5 as system ram is still a ways off. Kaveri + Steamroller core on DDR3 is a step in the right direction, and will be a big step up from Richland.

AMD are definitely on to a good thing with APU's. Progress is progress, Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.
 
I think you need to learn about memory bandwidth and how it affects resolution.
You've totally ignoring the point that ddr3 shared system memory will constrain
any performance gains at higher than 1680x1050 resolution, so no it won't be a big step up from Richland if on ddr3 thats my point.


Kaveri is about huma, hsa and cpu-gpu compute. Its the real fusion that they have talked about for years, If they want people to take their apus seriously they need to push the boundaries, SO that developers in software can then take their architecture and work with it. Why did Intel manage to catch up so qickly and exceed amd Llano and Trinity gpu performance, Why does haswell in the iris config feature edram?

I'm not ignoring anything bud, I think you're expecting to much. You mention Intel's Iris, look at how much Intel's Iris costs...

AMD are building an affordable all in one fusion of CPU / GPU. Doing a great job of it. Kaveri looks like good improvement over Richland. You have to be realistic, the target demo-graph of AMD's APU market is not someone willing to pay through the nose for DDR5 system memory or embedded EDram. Those types would just buy a dedicated GPU. Like I said earlier, it's easy for people to be negative. I am looking forward to Kaveri.

On the other hand 8 low performance cores is a good idea for game development, just coding everything on one or two thread wont do with it, it will force game devs to spread the workload across many more threads / cores and the result of that is no more bottlenecking the GPU on AMD and Intel CPU's.

Agreed, taking full advantage of more cores can only be a good thing. Look forward to seeing games being developed with this in mind and how they run on AMD's Steamroller architecture. My last AMD chip was a 1055T, would love to have a reason to go back to an AMD CPU. 8 core Steamroller may be it...
