AMD Driver Issues - RX6600 and Windows 11

Yesterday I built my new system and everything was working as it should until I installed the latest RX6600 AMD Drivers.

After installing the drivers and after the system reboots it loads up in a low resolution (1024 x 760) and in display settings this is the max it recognises with everything greyed out and in addition to this my WIFI is unavailable leading me to believe it’s booting in Safe Mode?

If I un-install the AMD Drivers the system loads back up at 1080P and WIFI working.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I have checked the boot sequence and “Safe Mode” is deselected and the system recognises my GPU as a RX6600.

MSI Motherboard prompted me to install all relevant MB/System Drivers.

System Specs
Intel I5 12400
MSI Z690 Pro Wifi
Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM 16GB
Gen 4 - NVME Drive
Corsair 750W PSU
Running Windows 11 Home

Try a factory reset and fresh install. Install AMD Radeon™ Software | AMD

I fully removed the AMD Drivers and did a fresh install of them but the same issue persists.

Just running the AMD software which Auto Detects and Downloads - When it finished the check it stated “Install - Downgrade” So I will report back once this has done its thing. Fingers crossed!

Weird for a GPU driver to interfere with a WiFi driver. Is your BIOS up-to-date? Is your monitor using the driver from the manufactuer as well, or is it showing as "generic p&p" in device manager?

I did a re-install and it managed to run in 1080p but has thrown my WIFI off - Used the AMD Tool to remove and it stated my system is not in safe mode and if I would like to run it in safe mode.

My monitor is showing as Generic in the device list however I do re-call seeing it recognising the display with its name.

I haven’t updated the BIOS nor can I confirm it’s on the latest version until a little later.

Frustrating issue! :D

Definitely frustrating - it should be a simple job popping a driver on. :)

I'd try and get the monitor driver re-installed and showing correctly. I'd then check the BIOS and get that updated if out-of-date, and then finally try the AMD drivers again. Maybes also see if the WiFi drivers are up-to-date (again, possibly beneficial here to grab direct from Intel as I know some of the latest releases have had Windows 11 compatibility and stuff in the release notes. MSI's hosted drivers could be slightly older).

My daughters in bed now so can begin to troubleshoot!

I did a Windows Reset and went direct to MSI’s website and downloaded all the Intel Drivers directly.

I’ve got a step further but identified something really strange!

So AMD drivers are installed and internet is working at 60Hz Refresh Rate however went I changed to 144Hz my WiFi stops working… Any clues :mad:

Still sounds motherboard related. The Intel WiFi drivers from MSI are v22.80.1.1. I'd personally try the ax200 driver from Intel, as it is v22.110.2.

And did you manage to check Bios version yet? 7D25vA1 appears to be latest.

Edit: I have never relied on WiFi but I thought in 2022 it would be no issue and rather than any kind of adaptor why not get a WiFi Mobo!!

60 Hz - No issue
85 Hz - No issue
100 Hz - No issue
120 Hz - No issue
144 Hz - No WiFi

Now after all the faffing I can atleast load some games up and happily play at that refresh rate however it would be nice to be able to get to the bottom of it, obviously something to do with the frequency interfering but surely I’m not the first to be on Virgin Media with a Wifi Board and a 144Hz monitor! :D

I will look now. It’s my first ever build and flashing BIOS and checking versions in Win 11 isn’t familiar to me so apologies as I imagine it’s very frustrating on your end.

Im on BIOS Version 1.0 (So not the latest) as released 14/09/2021

I am indeed on Wifi 22.80.1.1

So I will try the Intel 22.110.2 Drivers and see if that fixes, if not I will have a quick google on how to and flash the BIOS. (even if it does fix the issue I’ll ensure the bios is updated)

I installed the Intel Wifi update but upon restart it’s taken me back to a low resolution without the option to change so definitely a driver conflict going on.

Once I figure that out then I’ll be able to try out 144Hz with the new intel driver.

Edit - In Device Manager I disabled and un-installed onboard graphics driver which seems to have resolved that issue. (dummy question) is that normal practice or would it usually not interfere?

The latest Intel Driver has not fixed the issue as when I apply 144Hz the internet goes off therefore looks like a BIOS Flash to see if that sorts it. (Could be tomorrow I get to do that but I will update)

Morning -

I have updated the BIOS to Version E7D25IMS.126 with a build date of 24/01/2022 and unfortunately the issue still persists.

Additionally If I try and join a game of Battlefield 5 after each loading screen It goes blank and returns me to the menu with a message “Lost connection to EA Servers” at the exact same point each time which is weird considering the WiFi connection can handle a sustained download of 90GB at 12/14MB per second.

Even more gremlins is the fact randomly up on restart it keeps taking me back to low resolution randomly without the option to change it, certainly not having a good time at the moment

Can you try with a wired connection, to rule out whether its an AMD issue or an Intel issue? I've never seen anything like this issue.

I'll give it a go over Ethernet tonight and update the thread. Must be something to do with the Motherboards WIFI at this point but very strange how changing to 144HZ on my Display Settings cuts WIFI completely.

I tried to join CSGO and as soon as I go to go through the online matchmaking process it loses connection to the servers so it isn't just EA Servers but as mentioned it will happily download 90GB at 12/13MB no issue or interruption.

Nightmare  Due to the display settings causing an issue I might plug in my GTX 970 to see if the same issue applies on Nvidia Drivers etc just to rule it out too.

Have you gone onto the monitor makers site for the drivers for the monitor ? Some monitors you need their drivers for graphic card drivers to pickup what they can do and their name also shows up in the device manager and graphics driver. I would do that too and get the drivers or an inf file sometimes they provide for the monitor to correctly be recognised.

It doesnt look like this is the only case, I read two similar cases on the internet.

https://www.reddit.com/r/techsuppor..._monitor_causing_wifi_to_slow_down_immensely/

https://superuser.com/questions/1293116/screen-refresh-rate-disturbing-wifi

So there must be some connection here!!!

Certainly seems to be the exact issue I am having although worrying as reading those posts it doesn’t seem like an actual fix is available.

I have always used Ethernet so first time using a WIFI Motherboard but surely many people are using Intel 6 WIFI with a monitor that requires DisplayPort with no issues.

Even at 60HZ and with my internet working gaming online is still impossible as it constantly loses connection but as mentioned before online browsing, downloads etc are fine and stable.

Tomorrow or Wednesday I am going to try the following..

Ethernet
WiFi USB Dongle
Monitor Drivers directly from Acer
(Despite Windows recognising it’s name and being up to date) But I think at this point it’s certainly a WIFI issue.

What a bizarre situation having a £1200 Gaming investment being unable to do exactly just that at the moment!

Yeah it's a bit naff that there is no fix. I guess you need to establish that using ethernet fixes it and if so hopefully a wifi dongle will help. Have you had a good root through the bios to see what options there are ?
