I thought this was a nice touch for us ATI/AMD GPU users......as long as Steam did not automatically update them. I thought this was the case until just now.

To my horror, Steam has just decided to update them without asking my permission!

Why the hell is it doing this?

Really can't understand the attitudes of some people in this thread... people might find one driver works well for them, but the latest is bad, but want to check now and again to see if theres a newer driver than the last bad one they tested and not install the latest driver if its still the same old bad driver... neither do people expect clicking on a generically named button to act like a check box... the implementation in steam is bad and needs reworking.

Thanks. You have explained it a bit better than me. My point is that I always like to wait a few days after a driver release to see if there are any issues. I have been affected in the past by driver issues with some games I play.

Like this for instance which happened with the 10.5's. :)

If you click on the 'update drivers' button once, it appears that it will automatically download a newer version once released. That is my gripe. I wanted to update last time and not this time. Not yet anyway.

Anyway, where is it downloading these driver files to? I only ask as my drivers are usually downloaded to my D drive, installed on my C drive, but Steam is on my G drive.
