AMD driver woes

I am trying to install a 7850 driver onto Windows Vista 32bit clean install.

I am selecting the correct options in the driver choice menu.

I download and install. Has CCC changed to AMD Vision Engine Centre whilst I was not looking?

Driver and AMD VEC install fine.

When Windows loads up, I get the following crashes

"Load MMdriver application" stopped working

Catalyst Control Centre: Host Application" stopped working

However the driver has installed as in Device Man it recognises my card as a 7850. I can also output at 1080p (although with massive underscaling which I need to get into CCC to change :( )

Anyone else had this problem? Has the AMD website messed up and it is trying to install an APU driver?

This is my spare / hobby computer. I don't have a spare windows 7 key and the windows 8 preview is no longer available. So I'm using my old vista licence. I thought vista had been tweaked/ patched to be 'not too terrible' by the end of its life?

You were using Vista without any service packs?

Vista was a broken OS, it took 2 or 3 service packs to fix it

Yeah I reformatted a laptop the other day for a friend and after quite a few hours of updates, it still wouldn't update to SP1 or 2 so I had to do it manually, maybe time to move to W7 at least.

I did a clean install of Vista today and don't like to Browse for drivers / watch install bars at 640*480 so I usally put the graphics driver on first. Only that plan hasn't worked so Its been updating all evening. Hoping that the right network framework thing would get installed.

There are two more service packs? Oww:(
