AMD: FAQ for Project FreeSync is up

But what AMD was pointing out is that the Freesync tech as been around for year is still true. The 7000 series and past GPU's I believe support it. Only the Newer line up support it for gaming.

So if you ignore the gaming part, AMD freesync support is right on par with Gsync support.

What real use does it have other then gaming?
I would have thought most users that own a 7000 series card did so for gaming(excluding mining :p which i dont think freesync helps with)

Sweet!
That should solve my biggest issue with my 7950s! That awful screen tearing you get in Notepad... :p

nVidia brought G-Sync for their own pockets and not for me? That is a bit of a contradiction when I have a G-Sync monitor ordered lol And to add, at less than the price of the original 4K monitor I purchased :p

You do realise that Mantle isn't an 'Open Standard'? Nothing about Mantle is open. True Audio I will use of course, as that is a good addition...Oh wait! Proprietary doesn't bother me but when people are not willing to see that both are doing it, I am afraid that leaves a bitter taste.

Nvidia and Intel can use it, = Open Standard.

The 7000 series dont support freesync though. Says so in AMDs own FAQ.

No I can't and it is still Proprietary. I went to download Mantle API and I can't get a link. Can you link me it please?

Open Standards Requirement for Software
The Requirement
An "open standard" must not prohibit conforming implementations in open source software.

The Criteria
To comply with the Open Standards Requirement, an "open standard" must satisfy the following criteria. If an "open standard" does not meet these criteria, it will be discriminating against open source developers.

No Intentional Secrets: The standard MUST NOT withhold any detail necessary for interoperable implementation. As flaws are inevitable, the standard MUST define a process for fixing flaws identified during implementation and interoperability testing and to incorporate said changes into a revised version or superseding version of the standard to be released under terms that do not violate the OSR.
Availability: The standard MUST be freely and publicly available (e.g., from a stable web site) under royalty-free terms at reasonable and non-discriminatory cost.
Patents: All patents essential to implementation of the standard MUST:
be licensed under royalty-free terms for unrestricted use, or
be covered by a promise of non-assertion when practiced by open source software
No Agreements: There MUST NOT be any requirement for execution of a license agreement, NDA, grant, click-through, or any other form of paperwork to deploy conforming implementations of the standard.
No OSR-Incompatible Dependencies: Implementation of the standard MUST NOT require any other technology that fails to meet the criteria of this Requirement.

Hmmmm, if there is no where to download it, it sure isn't 'Open Standard'

So even Nvidia back track isnt that great... Witch you can understand with the tech thats involved in this.

Aye, as I said it's purely limited by when they started pumping out cards with dp, iirc the 500 series and below only came with dvi/hdmi. I believe the standard 750ti doesn't sport a dp output either, though evga went out of their way to make one :)

Gsync isn't bound only to DP though, as future revisions are fabled to also support dvi and possibly HDMI too. Thats the benefit of doing the tech yourself, instead of relying on standards agencies to do it for you.

Source you might ask? Check out the interview with nvidia that MaximumPCMag posted on youtube. Straight from the horses mouth that future versions of gsync will have no issue supporting other inputs if thats what users want.

Your confused, You not being able to use it does not = propitiatory. it just means Nvidia don't have the technology.

There is no licensing, if Nvidia wanted to use it they could.

Yet intel have asked AMD numerous times to use it and been declined each time since it was mentioned to its current form, yet loads more game studios supposedly get to use it monthly.

Your confusing Free-Sync with Mantle, Intel asked for Mantle, AMD told Intel they can have Mantle as soon as its out of BETA.

I was talking about mantle, as that was the context given...
