AMD freesync coming soon, no extra costs.... shocker

Unless I'm mistaken (which is always possible) the variable part of AMDs route is they send a vBlank right? Something which tells the monitor the refresh rate (or how long to hold the frame, same thing).

Is there anything saying G-Sync is doing the same? Or will the monitor simply refresh when it receives a frame (so no guessing is involved) or refresh if the frame takes too long (30Hz minimum I believe?).

Its unclear on the difference at a hardware level as every source seems to avoid that question for now. The gsync module has 768mb of RAM on it, which again, is unclear why.

Shouldn't the title be changed? Freesync is going to be every bit as costly as G-sync is except it's less of a refined product and more mashed together.

Until reviewers get these screens to actually test, we just don't know that (yet). Gsync is great and I wouldn't go back to using a monitor that doesn't possess the same ability to remove tearing completely, whilst giving vsync off style input lag (aka sod all).

Think i might have to hold off on 4K until a Freesync 4K monitor is born. At least i know my gpus are already capable.

You should wait on 4K. ;)

Yeah it makes sense especially as i have an IPS which is very good quality. Temped though i must admit. I think I'll hold off for a 4k Freesync display and either consider a third reference 290 or a MSI 290X Lightning to play around with in the meantime.

Yeah I'll also be holding off for one. Even though I don't use vsync I willing to give this a try.

So 1440p 120hz Freesync enabled me happy to pay £400

the screens are still not good enough for me yet
and i dont think windows as a OS is ready either

the pc's are ready i say, its just everything else that is lagging e_e

I don't think even with AA reduced, all games will keep a frame rate at 60fps and don't drop below 60fps.

Yeah sure you get some games. Guess it depends on of you happy to reduce things. Am not, he'll I wouldn't even touch 60hz anymore, reason I can't bring myself to play on me ps4.

Personal choice don't shoot me.

Can you max out all games to keep frame rate 60fps?

No idea if I am honest and I don't run a frame counter when gaming (only when benching) and in the last few months of having 4K, I am loving it. Not sure what maxing all games out at 60 fps has to do with enjoying games though.
