AMD FreeSync vs Nvidia G-Sync - the adaptive sync battle

i think philips did confirm they making a gsync?
no idea on what sizes tho
but you might just be in luck

shame they are the only ppl that made one that size

Think i will jump on the 1440p 144Hz free sync montior! Depends on what the next iteration of cards are like! If nvidia cards end up being better it will make things harder lol. Tho i thought you could buy a freesync montior like the one i described and fit a gsync module to it? Is that a possibility?

no not possible
i think there was only 1 screen that you could do that with?
i bet its not impossible to have a screen with both tho and be able to disable the gsync part its just they wont do it lol

i havent heard anything about dell
are they likely never to support this kind of stuff?

Hmm true i guess. There probably will be compatibility issues. Didn't actually think about not being able to turn the gysnc module off :( would have been nice tho i guess lol.

Yea thats a good point not heard much from dell in terms of their monitors! Weird!

Lovely to see AMD working so hard to bring this great free technology to as wide an audience as possible. So refreshing for a company to look out for their customers, rather than trying to stitch them for a quick buck at every turn. AMD should be applauded.

What?

Freesync doesn't work with 280x, 7990/7970/7950, etc.

It's basically 290 or 285 only. AMD are pushing people to new GPUs.

GSync works fine with 6 series GPUs, which are of the same era as 7970.

Still glad I dumped my 7970/7990 trifire for 980s and RoG Swift.

We need more Free/G-Sync UHD monitors. Are there likely any quick IPS UHD monitors with Free/G-Sync getting released this year?

That's a very one-sided perspective.

AMD claim that adaptive-sync requires changes to the hardware in the GPU to work and we have to take their word for that. Therefor it can't be backwardly supported.

G-Sync moves the new hardware requried to the monitor so can more easily be supported by older cards (presumably, but it seems unlikely that Nvidia put special hardware for G-Sync into the 6-series but waited until now to use it). The downside is that this means you pay a price premium on the monitor.

And so nvidia should support more, there chip is in the display, amd chip is in the GPUs.. They can't by magic flip a switch and a 7970 will have full support..

This stuff happens all the time when monitor come with new technology.. Do the 6 series support hdmi 2.0? Did older GPUs at first support display port etc
