I am about to get a new gaming computer from alien----. The problem i have is do i go for the amd fx-60 processor with hypertransport or the amd 64 x 2 4800+ with dual core technology and hypertransport. There is a £400 difference between the two with the fx-60 being more expensive but i want to get the better of the two. Which is far superior for gaming only?. If it helps the setup will have two 7900 gtx 512mb in it aswell....Cheers folks :D

Alien... hahahahaha

Sorry but, they are owned by dell, charge ludicress amounts for their products and all look the same.

Can you tell me the entire spec so I can see how much it would cost to build something as fast/faster by buying parts from here.

But to answer your question the FX-60 would be faster, but in no way is it worth another £400 unless you plan to overclock it a LOT.

Don't buy from alien----. Let someone in here spec up a system for you and probably save a few grand in the process. If you must buy a prebuilt gaming pc take a look at ocuk's systems, they are very reasonably priced.

Like this system with a 20inch widescreen monitor...might want to add windows for £55 (home)

Edit: If it has to be prebuilt then something like this system from OCuk "Ultima Extreme SLi 7900 GT" AMD Athlon X2 4800 Dual Core DDR System" for £2000. You could askt hem to change the graphics for 7900GTXs for around £300 I reckon and then get the monitor seperately it would come to £2600ish

As said above

You can even get a better pre-built system from OcUK for much-much less. See here ;)

The FX60 is currently the top AMD processor & has all the bells & whistles: dual-core, HyperTransport™ (all A64's have this anyway), etc. Rumored to be the last one before they move to a different socket. TBH, most ppl (here) think that its not really worth the high premimum, especially since some are getting same speeds from their cheaper dual-core processors

Quad SLI = A pointless useless penis extension.
PhyX card = anothe rpointless adition, barely any games use it.

I'd get this one ""Ultima Crossfire X1900 XT-X"" from the Overclockers Full systems page as it seems you have money to play with here.
Save the money from Quad-SLI and get a nice big monitor or two instead.

If you want the fastest PC at the moment then this is the quad SLI system with the PhysX card

It isn't worth £4k+ though. You can get a PC that's pretty much just as fast, with SLI and dual core, for half that :) If you want the fastest around then you end up paying for it

How about:

CP-146-AM AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX60 (Socket 939) - Retail (ADAFX60DAA6CDBOX) (CP-146-AM)

Half the price of the OCUK System but with top of the range components - FX 60, Crossfired X1900XT & X1900XTX, Raptor Hard Drive, Aluminium case, very good quality PSU, etc

who told you that?

Dell bought them a few months ago.

I bought most of my bits from OCUK and it cost me around £1200. A similar rig from "them" at the same time would have cost me over twice that. They're a tad overpriced  :D

Buy all the parts seperately and go SLI 7900GTX or crossfire. It'll be a lot cheaper than getting it pre-built and will ber a big lesson and learning experience in building your frst PC... it's fun. :)
