AMD FX-670K CPU Shows Up in the Wild

Tipsters pointed us to a peculiar sounding new processor by AMD in the wild, and being distributed by certain OEMs, such as HP. Called AMD FX-670K, the chip is being sold by HP, pre-installed on its Pavilion 500-266ea desktops. Some digging around on specifications available point us to a chip that's essentially "Richland" APU with its integrated GPU disabled. So while it will run on socket FM2 motherboards, you'll have to use graphics cards.

There was a time when FX was great. Now this. The top FX chip on AMD's most advanced design is going to set you back about £70

Don't get me wrong, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the 750k and its like, but it's not deserving of the mighty FX moniker

(you can argue the same about Bulldozer, but at least that had ambition)

i have ran both bulldozer and Pilldriver and both are fantastic really low tems on air and good overclocking on both hopefully AMD can put up a bit of a better fight against intel with there next CPU

While i agree BD and PD can really shine (given the situation) but they certainly don't run cool. Who knows what the real core temp of the chip is when you hit that 61 degree limit AMD recommend. One of the best things about fx chips for me was that i found practically all of them to be able to hit a fairly high clock relatively easily.

As for this CPU... it is an APU with the GPU disabled, it has an unlocked multiplier but the OEM board does not give you any control over multiplier settings.

What gains are there to be had from disabling the gpu onboard? Surely you can do exactly the same by just buying a richland chip and ocing it?
