AMD FX Overclocking

What the hell are yous using to cool it? With my H100, (maybe it is setup wrong I dunno) I cant seem to get past 4.4 and my pc kept crashing (dont think it was cpu, but hey ho) so i turned it back down, my cpu etc always used to get really hot anything past that.
I am on an 8320 on a MSI 990FXA-GD65

h100 also. Do you have the fans set at the highest setting? So when the cpu temp rises the fans spin up to the highest RPM??

Bumping this a little. Dropped down from 4k res to 1440 so overclocking my 8350 now. just randomly started at 4.9GHz (235 x 21) and 1.36 volts and seems stable, just used it for 3 hours no problem playing GTA V online pretty much all maxed out. But my peak temp at the end of it is 71 according to the core package in Hwinfo but 62 according to my asus Mobo's CPU reading which is also displayed through Hwinfo. I assume I should go with the package temp yes? how unsafe do you think those temps are?

the package temp just seems very erratic to me, watching it semi idle right now and it jumps up and down so much. usually at 19-25 but has had jumps all the way up to 35c and can do it all within 30 seconds. 19 to 35 and back to 19 in 30 seconds? seems unbelievable when the cpu % is barely moving and under 10%. the sabertooth cpu temp meanwhile is constantly at 32-34ish over the past 10minutes

Sounds like a good result.

The 8350 I had got 4.6ghz at stock vcore and I got a max of about 45 degrees on it but that was with an extreme fan curve.

my fans only go to 65% currently. that's enough to keep it safe, probably need to drop it down tbh, I can tell when the cpu reaches the max temp I set because the fans spin up and then stops 30-60 seconds later. 55-60% will probably hold it steady without making as much noise. got to love them EK FF5's, so noisy though

moves so much air that my gpu VRM temps have dropped 6-7c from me overclocking my CPU :D before the CPU fans were at 30% 24/7 and keeping the 8350stock at 45C when gaming but obviously not doing a great job at exhausting general case heat.

Thread res has made me tempted to give mine a go.

8320, running at stock (3.5ghz) my temps were always too high but after changing back to air it's running nice and cool. If I can get another year or so from this chip/mobo I'll be a happy chappy.

With a decent cooling option the 8320's are good enough to run 4.5Ghz all the time. For the £100 it cost it certainly hasnt let me down. Zen might tempt me to upgrade but I'm in no hurry to, will wait it out for best £ toward the summer.

and that's why I got the 8320e ;) they'll easily do 4.8-5.1 without breaking a sweat.......

for me to get past 5.26 I'm pretty sure I need bigger hunk of metal; bigger aol cooler or full custom water.....I'm thermal limited at that point.

8320e is utter beast of a chip and blast to overclock.....
