Hi there,

Just wondering what the equivalent to my FX57 is, as in what modern chip equals it on a performance basis.

I realise that multiple cores may complicate things, just want a general indicator - thats all.

Cheers

Thanks for that - great site.

Seems the FX57 is a bit hit and miss depending on the application.

Its mainly for games that I care about, ive just bought a 7900GTO and wanted an idea of what would be holding the system back

If you have the mobo, ram etc then the x2 4400 would be your best bet, if you are getting the ram and mobo then get a E6300. :)

Ive just bought a shuttle SN26P and already have 2GB of Corsair Low Latency XMS stuff, i'm basically just trying to bridge the gap between now and march/april time when i'll probably do a big upgrade.

The main issue is that I have a Dell 24" 2405 and obviously running games on it requires a bit of grunt. Thought that if need be I could chuck in another 7900GTO (Both clocked to GTX) in SLI for a bit more graphical grunt.

That sounds like a good plan. You will probably see more difference adding the extra card than upgrading the CPU. Also, given that you already have an FX57 and your main interest is gaming (minimal use of dual core) I wouldn't spend more money on s939. Conroe is the next logical step when you do decide to upgrade the CPU.

Thanks for your help, just found out today that the GTO is dual slot so theres no chance of getting another in there unless I find a single slot cooling solution for the card :( Also didnt know that there is no onventional PCI slot so looks like the X-Fi is gonna go up for sale :(
