Just browsing round ebay and the old s939 AMD FX 57s are still going for around 120£+ , slightly used... why are they still so expensive?

are they more powerful than a current gen AMD quad core, say 2.8ghz?

People can have really old systems for standalone uses like NAS boxes etc.

They also want the fastest chips that setup can handle, so thats where the premium comes from.

I sold a athlon fx-60 last christmas for £150 . im a dustman and always pick up old computers on my shift , You will be amazed at some of the hardware i have found that people have thrown away.

My best find was a crappy old generic celeron based pc with a 8800 gtx ultra in it . just has a blown psu and had been binned

I have sold 2 old AGP card on the bay for more than I bought them for.

Some peeps have old rigs that they just use to surf the web and stuff and it is still cheaper to replace an old part than buying a new rig. :)

i have around 40 agp cards that i have collected out of scrapped rigs , dozens of cpu's , hardrives etc .

i make the odd computer from recycled parts i have collected and sell them cheap on ebay for usally around 70 pound .
a p4 1gb ram and 80gb hardrive running ubuntu is a decent setup for surfing the net which is all they are really anygood for .

Those were the days. Quite happy I got lower end of the San Diego core spectrum, the 3700+. Overclocked fine to 2.9GHz. Saved me about £500!
