AMD FX6300 OR INTEL i5?

Damn it feels like forever since I've posted on here! Anyway, I want to know this very simple question, is the i5 better than the FX 6300? I ask this because I want to get an upgrade but I'm not sure whether I should get an i5 (if it's better) or to go straight to an i7? With these two processors, what gpu would go with them and also, are two sticks of 1333mhz 4GB ram okay? Thanks for the help.

If the RAM is not okay, it would be good if it's not (in a way) because it means I can buy a mobo, cpu and ram bundle which would mean I could save a bit, cheers.
 
Depends on what GPU you are going to use them with. i.e are you going to be bottle necked otherwise the fx6 is fine.
 
I'd go i5 if you can afford it, all round better performance. However, the 6300 represents excellent value if you are on a small budget. The RAM should be fine
 
I went from a 6300 using an R9 290 to a Xeon and my fps make quite a big jump in every game. Also system runs a lot cooler and uses a fair bit less power now.
 
The OP already has the FX6300 with an HD7870.

A mate has an overclocked FX6300 with an HD7870XT/LE and has 100s of games,most of which seem to run fine last time I checked.

If I were the OP I would just stick with what they have unless they have some serious issues with a game they play which are CPU related.

for epeen intel will give better fps.

in actual world noticing a difference not at all stick with the 6300.

If you have the upgrade bug like I did get the intel it will make you happy :)
 
Do you feel you don't get enough performance?

i5k + 290 would be an excellent combo

Strangely enough yes! With my current set up as shown in my signature, I wasn't expecting solid 60fps with ultra in bf4 but I was surprised when it couldn't stay at a solid 35 to 40fps. And from what I've heard, Intel performs a tonne better, well that's what my friend has said!

yes 90% of games an intel cpu will give you better frames than an AMD CPU.

Also the 290 performs amazingly

Are you going to overclock or not?

Once I have a pc that isn't as temperamental as the British weather then maybe! I might get a water cooler in a totally new build made by overclockers uk and see if they'll do it though.
I'm having to type this with my phone because as we speak, my PC as shown by my signature is at a shop getting checked over
