looking to upgrade my cpu to a 8 core but not sure which one to get

specs

fx6300 @4.6, mobo gigabyte 970a-ud3p, gpu xfx dd 7950 @1050/1400, ram 16gb g.skill 1600hmz 4x4 sticks, psu oct zt 650w, cooling custom loop

im not looking to go intel till end of next year

i have around £140 to spend on a am3+ cpu

any help

Not really sure what you want help on specifically. From what you have said, there is only one CPU option. I would recommend getting a 8320/50 and clocking it up rather than getting it pre-clocked and breaking your budget for the same chip. I cant imagine you will see any noticeable gains gaming with it considering your GPU.

Why are you after the upgrade?

Personally I would just save the money for next year, if you're planning an upgrade then. Won't see any significant improvements jumping to 8 core.

I believe a lot of games only use 1 core, this is why you see 100% load.
I should think it's the same for most of us. Is for me (i5 4670k).

it because when i play my games its the cpu always at 100% load apart from games which was made in 2013

for the gpu im going to wait for amd to release there new cards

Is your gpu generally running at around 100%?

If it is, then the CPU isn't causing a bottleneck

If you want future proof get an FX 8. The 8320 E should overclock to around 4.5ghz and will last you years thanks to the new console layout.

You don't need Intel, not unless you want invisible gains to please your inner self. Just throw in a FX 8 with a decent cooler and your rig will last you years for gaming.

Invisible gains? :o The only reason you get an FX cpu is if you already have the mobo and are looking for an upgrade or you are really on a budget.

Otherwise Intel is a big upgrade. i5 or i7.

The 8350 for example is mostly at the bottom of CPU gaming benchmarks.

As the OP already has an FX cpu at 4.6 upgrading to an 8 core FX CPU is hardly an upgrade.

Yes, invisible gains. The only difference between my FX 8320 @ 4.9ghz and my 3970x @ 4.9ghz is a Cinebench score.

The FX 8 absolutely destroy the I5s in heavy multi tasking, something of major importance IMO.

Just trust me on this, going from a FX 8 to a £900 Intel I've seen absolutely no difference at all in the real world. Sure, my benchmark numbers are far higher but that means absolutely nothing.

Those people who say "Well I went from a FX 8 to an Intel and everything feels so much smoother !!!" are talking cack. Smoother my .....

Well I'm not debating you know more than I do on this subject considering I have never seen an FX chip in action, but from benchmarks (gaming) the 8320 is not only at the bottom, but it is also 10-20 fps off the Intels depending on game.

When you say invisible, your saying yes, but the difference between 60 fps and 80 fps is not visible. To that yea you have a point, but to say the intels arent a big upgrade I think is false.

(But only in same games, as the GPU bound ones wont show a difference)

Trying to find the benchmarks I was refering too...

Here we go.

I suppose your right. Although the 8350 is at the bottom, the difference between 90fps and 110fps is invisible.

i have a mobo already thats why im sticking with amd i may just grab a 8350/8370 and overclock it and with my fx 6300 now i got a bad one as needs 1.6v to do 5ghz stable tops out at 56c

the way i look at intel is for single core which none of the games i play only uses two cores

also i do multi tasking with loads of tabs open, word and some programes open

Yup. Thing is in newer games it's not 10-30 FPS it's more like 5 FPS.

And with the consoles now? it won't change. X86 code written to use 8 cores. Well, 6 plus the OS.

The only thing that matters in gaming is the min FPS, as most of us will use Vsync.

The 8320E has a revised power stage too, so does use slightly less electricity at the same clocks as the earlier Visheras.

You will need a very good cooler for the very high clocks, but from what I've seen you only really need to get it to around 4.4ghz for it to really start kicking.

Oh, and make sure you use Windows 8, 7 does not address them properly.
