It'll be interesing to see if they've come up with a Core2Duo Extreme competitor or if it's all just marketing speak...

Honestly, I doubt it. Surely the core clock speed would have to be scaled to 4Ghz+ to compete with a 2.93Ghz conroe?

Besides, it seems clear that intel has headroom to release faster clocked processors should they feel the market warrents it (95% of people here clocking their e6600s to 3.2Ghz+ is evidence enough of this...).

I think AMD can forget about retaining a strong presence in the high-end performance market until their next CPU revision is ready.

but C2D isn't THAT much stronger than K8 as it is, and i doubt these will be without any revisions, might be worth keeping an eye out for these and check performance, it honestly sounds like K8L (and whatever desktop variant comes of it) will be faster than/equal to at the least to conroe, so all AMD need to do is keep working on K10, get that out as fast as possible and using 65 nanometre fabrication, should be able to compete with intel fairly well, don't write it off before you see its capabilities...

not sure whats different between hte FX60 and the FX70 besides the socket

The Hypertransport bus (facilitates communication between the CPU and chipset) is twice as fast. It'll be interesting to see how this affects performance, if at all.

nothing, probably. hell the difference between 600mhz and 1000mhz on s939 is bugger all.
