AMD GPU for 1440P Ultra Settings 60+ FPS

Hi,

I'm wanting to upgrade me 290X and keep FreeSync so needs to be AMD

With the thread title in mind, is my only option the Fury X?

Thanks

Pretty much yes, or you could go Xfire 480's, personally id wait with your 290X and grab a Vega card when they arrive.

Im in the same boat, im running a 290P @ 1440 144hz Freesync, im just holding on til Vega, dialling down a few settings, its all good.

Yeah I considered that but my monitor was a bargain and I really like it also I dont fancy paying Nvidia tax on the GPUs or monitors so looks like I'll need to wait it out

Thanks

You'll have to wait until sometime next year for Vega, as theres no upgrade from a 290 from AMD till then.

Really? Have the rumors for this year been proven wrong?

Would the Saphire Nitro Fury on offer be a bit of a side grade, my maths say about 10% increase in performance but I'm not so good at maths! If it is then 10% isnt enough really

If you are not interested in xfire then best wait. No point upgrading to Fury X for the small increase you get.

Also if you are running at 1440p, the last thing you want is to buy another 4gb card, as all the Fury X GPU's are 4gb only.

Sorry should have mentioned, not interested in Xfire

There isnt one. The only single card close to being able to do 60fps+ in everything at 1440p at max settimgs is the 1080.

I think once the big dies on 14nm come out 1440p and a constant 60fps+ in even the latest most demanding games will be possible.

Probably best to wait till vega or gp102

Not really an option for you bud. Not even a 1080 can hold 60 fps with max settings in all games and 1440P. If you are happy to drop some settings the 1080 can cope just fine and drop them even further and a Fury X will cope and drop them even further and a 290X can cope.

I tested a 1080 in 20 games to show how that copes and that will give you some idea of what you need.

Thanks for the vid I'll give it a watch

I'm surprised at the grunt required to power 1440P max settings, I mostly play games 12 months or so behind the release curve and struggling keeping 60FPS in Evolved on max settings

BF4 is my most played game and holds 70FPS most of the time with dips into the 40's but FreeSync keeps that in check, if there was an AMD card that keep above 60FPS I would buy it

Time to consider dropping the settings, I hate doing that though :(

I was wondering if the Fury X would cater for it, or even the Fury thats on offer currently.

The 480 launch was a huge disappointment for me, I've been saving a long time and had high hopes for a 390X replacement that was a worthy upgrade for 290 or even Fury owners but unfortunately there was nothing

I just need to be patient

When Greg says max settings he means max settings with aa cranked up to the hilt which Imo is a fps killer on any card, if people can compromise and be prepared to lower aa slightly even a 970/290 are capable 1440 cards
