I have an AMD Radeon H6990 4GB card which I got for free (I got this review sample from the hardware site I work for), and I'm going to build an ITX gamer which I already got all the parts for, however I'm considering if if would be more sensible to look for a single GPU solution ?

Which card would give equal performance of a HD6990 ?
doesn't matter it it's AMD or nVidia however, I would like to try AMD again since I have not had AMD since 2010

Equal performance would be; Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition Windforce 3X

Or, Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB and overclock it.

Is it struggling?

Well not what I know of (still need to assemble the ITX pc), but many have made remarks about have a dual gpu card in a ITX machine may not be the wisest thing to do also regard power/wattage. :)

Highly clocked 79/67 series(when there is a good CrossFire profile in place)@1080p.

But, the 6990 doesn't cost anything.;)

Well that's what I kind of figured, but wasn't sure if a HD7870 XT could keep up with it :)
Then I think the best thing to do would just be to keep the HD6990, since I probably wouldn't be able to make that many £'s on selling it, since it's a review sample an 0 accessoires/warranty

A 7870 XT will clock to 7970 performance, its a good strong card....

The 6990 will be a bit quicker at stock but thats only if the xFire works in said game, and they use a lot of power and put out a lot of heat

Yup and doesn't make deciding what to do easier :D

If it fits your case, and you get on with the 6990, try it out, if it doesn't suit due to heat/power, then change it.

Going from very good dual 6950>70's@1GHz to a single oc'd [email protected] didn't exactly blow me away, some titles were better some were disappointing where the 79 was outgunned.

Where the 79 came into it's own was in a couple of titles in 3D(Alan Wake and Kingdoms Of Amalur) that had negative scaling, although they scaled well in 2D.

Yea I think that is going to be the route I'm following. The case is a Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced that can take up to 34,4 cm long graphic cards, and the HD6990 is 30,5 cm so I will juuust fit inside the case ;)

It looks as if the side panel is drilled so airflow should be better.

You could also try downclocking your voltage too while maintaining the same clocks, if you get a result, make a custom bios with RBE with the modified voltage, quite simple to do.

Idk if RBE works with the 6990 being a dual gpu(maybe someone else can clarify or put up a new thread), but it's a thought.
