I think I have an interesting chip on my 7950 but I haven't really pushed it.

Stock vcore at 0.994 and will hit 1000mhz at just that. Now interestingly the ASIC rating is 90.1% and I was wondering if that had anything to do with it.

Now when I come to push the vcore it get's pretty toasty and hits 85c and starts to throttle, I can't get anywhere near the 1.2 vcore that seems plausible having a quick look around online. I was wondering if the low leakage of this card is also why it's not the biggest fan of extra volts?

Have you had any dealings with chips like this?

Na asic means nothing m8, i had a 7950 with very low asic in the 50s/60s and that would do the same, basically you could match core speed to mvs needed, so at 900mhz it would run at .9v and at 1300mhz 1.3v etc.

I have another 7950 with much higher Asic and it needed more than .05v to match each overlock and wouldnt even reach 1300 mhz at 1.3v

Every explanation of asic ive seen so far hasnt made sense when you compare it against the results people then post with their cards so i dunno what the point of it is.

had 2 7950
1) xfx dd with no voltage control which did >1100 (but not much) on stock
2) gigabyte 7950 which did 1200 pretty easy.(1.2V max)

so depends on if you have voltage control. Memory also went up pretty easy.

Yeah my XFX was volt locked, required a lil volt mod. The stock volts was about 1.2 on them cards anyway though so it would do 1200 mhz without it.

Yeah, the whole ASIC thing is confusing and have seen conflicting reports from what it is supposed to equate to. Think I need to redo the TIM more than anything, I think "Sticky Stuff Remover" is about the only thing remotely suitable I have in to remove all of the thermal paste to do a good job but I'm not sure how suitable that is :P probably fine if I dry and polish it properly.. and yet..
