"The new and improved heatsink from AMD retail pack 165 Opteron comes with 4 heat pipes, topped with 80 x 20mm delta fan with built in temp sensor that will reach 5,200 rpm when it is called for the tough job(s), yet runs quietly during light duty even at 800Mhz overclocked speed."

i think the 3800 x2 comes with the old style one and anything above has the heat pipe cooler

amd heatsink

in thearticle under conclusions:

Q: Do they come only bundled with Opteron 165?
A: So far from what we can tell from user experience these new heatsinks come with Athlon X2 above 3800+ and any Opteron S939 Dual Core Chip.

well hopefully this is true because it would save buying a third party cooler.

My x2 3800 that I bought 2 weeks ago came with the 'old' HSF. I'm sure I read somewhere that the x2 4400 and above come with the heatpipe version but I don't know if this is true.

I have this 4pipe cooler which came with my opty. Best stock cooler I've seen!
1.5v 2.76 ghz temps yet to push over c46 under heavy loads.

My x4400 came with the fancy heatpipe cooler :)

And what a good cooler it is, quiet (apart from when its at full whack) and does a good job

Hmm i would like to try one of those heatpipe coolers with a nice big 120mm panaflo on it...

Might cool my X2 4400 better than my scythe ninja :p

same here - got one with my 4400 - using a Artci freezer pro 64 currently but might give the stock cooler a bash - nice 4 pipe cooper number.

The dfi board forces me to have the 64 pro cooler pushing the heat to the top of the case - towards the psu.

Will give it a bash over the weekend - might look at modding a 120mm fan onto it instead of the 80 mm fan.
