The news was disappointing for every one of the major players. AMD dropped 13.6%, Intel slipped the least, just 2.9%, and Nvidia declined the most with 16.7% quarter-to-quarter change, this coming on the heels of a spectacular third quarter. The overall PC market actually grew 2.8% quarter-to-quarter while the graphics market declined 8.2% reflecting a decline in double-attach. That may be attributed to Intel's improved embedded graphics, finally making "good enough" a true statement.

They are counting iGPU's as GPU's so that explains why they have Intel as 60% of the market graphics suppliers.

Not really suprising to be honest.PS4 probably stole a few customers but even the hardcore console haters like myself have not upgraded in a while.I am going to keep my 580 until something proper comes out around £400.GTX 680 or 7970 wont cut the mustard at high res or 120hz.Titan costs twice as much as i would expect considering its performance and ATI refuse to release something to topple the titan at £400-£500.

ATI had a great chance to do real damage this last few months to nvidia with a highly clocked 8970 6GB with the amazing games bundle.A lot of big titles like Crysis 3 Rome II are in thier gaming program. They also can boast of having thier cards inside the next generation consoles for better ports.

ATI seem half asleep to be honest. If you have someone on the backfoot finnish him otherwise it might be you who is finnished off.Nvidia could have killed them in the same way if they had of done a deal with sony and microsoft for thier new consoles and released the titan at £500.The fact Nvidia refused thier business just shows how arrogant Nvidia really are that they think they are above a certain price threshhold.Nvidia must think that they are the luxury brand now that only the rich can afford.Everyone else including console plebs has to go to ATI? :)

Thier both as idiotic as each other.I guess they both want to keep the profits rolling in and not rock the boat too much but i find it hard to keep a straight face when you think of how much money would be involved with the total sales of the next gen consoles. We are talking about the next six to seven years of gaming hardware here and whoever has the consoles and the worlds fastest single card would make a ton of money. So really how do Nvidia justify walking away from sony? Do they really think thier GPU alone can match the profits ATI will recieve from console sales? If thier current pricing is anything to go by all they did was just set themselves in a very vulnerable position. It only takes one leapfrog from ATI to shatter thier business for the next seven years and with the guaranteed income of next gen consoles using two forms ATI hardware they should have enough money now to invest in a killer GPU lineup.

Morons!

So the PC market grew? Is that just laptops and desktops or are they inculding high end tablets with Intel chips? I guess Windows 8 may have made an impact but that os is more geared towards tablets. The other posability is the decline of the box PC which has been in terminal decline for years now is or about to bottom out.

AMD haven't been in a position to inflict a killer blow to nVidia over the last few months in a race to the bottom nVidia could have held out longer - AMD have played it fairly well to keep their business in a semi healthy state in a tough time.

They all need to stop ripping customers off tbh might help.
Prices ain't much of an issue, if they would give the proper bang for bucks for peoples' money...

The problem is the performance jump between gens are simply too small thesedays, and with both camps milking what's basically "same gen" cards for a 2 years period (7000 series, GTX600+factory overclock aka GTX700 series...which are already not amazingly faster than the previous gen cards), so it's no wonder people are not spending money getting new cards.

I stopped reading when you used the company name ATI.

As far as i know Nvidia did not walk away, they were dropped.

AMD haven't been in a position to inflict a killer blow to nVidia over the last few months in a race to the bottom nVidia could have held out longer - AMD have played it fairly well to keep their business in a semi healthy state in a tough time.

Yeah, Nvidia seems to be dropping at a slightly faster rate "AMD dropped 13.6%, Nvidia declined the most with 16.7%"

That will only get worse for both once the Consoles are out.
But i don't think AMD care much, they don't get a lot of revenue from discrete GPU's, what they loose to Consoles will get offset by Consoles.

Investors seem to agree.

AMD scores huge gains on game chatter

AMD shares traded up nearly 6% to close at $3.60. The stock ended the week with a gain of 36.4%, putting it just under its best week ever logged in October of 2002, according to FactSet.

All I gain from that article is the guy's name is Wang. AMDs price rise is encouraging but it's already very low

And although AMD’s stock has jumped 50% since the beginning of the year, it is still down 50% for the last 12 months.

50% up isn't bigger than 50% down :p

Interesting times ahead for sure though

Nvidia, Intel, AMD, they are all down on last year, the difference is Intel and Nvidia would never make anywhere near as much from Tablet IP as they do from PC hardware, and its a 4 horse race.

Intel and Nvidia are very dependant on PC Hardware, as is AMD but they are so small in comparison to Intel and Nvidia a decline does not make as bigger difference to them, and AMD now have the Console market owned, it looks like they are doing the same in cloud game streaming and their SeaMicro server business is expanding.

While Intel and ARM fight over low power IP with Nvidia paying royalties to ARM.

Intel and Nvidia pay investors dividend, for now they are turning a reasonable profit which they get dividend from, so they are reluctant pull investments out, but as soon as that dividend disappears the majority of them will pull out instantly. So Nvidia and Intel need to find ways to keep profits high. they are not going to get that from low power SoC IP, not even close, ARM at peak completely owned that sector and are 100 times smaller than Intel.
Currently Intel are trying to muscle ARM into oblivion so they can dominate that space and set prices.

For us, the only way they can keep profits up is to jack up the prices as demand falls, and that's not going to last long, there aren't that many people to be fooled into thinking they are getting the quality they pay for.

AMD haven't payed Dividend for years, they don't actually care that much what investors do.
