Nice AMD is in the Green again -

Okay, that sounded a little narly. But good news for AMD as they have managed to achieve a net income of $48 million on revenue of $1.46 billion, this would be the company's first profit since Q2 2012. A good chunk of profit came from a sale-and-leaseback operation of AMD's Singapore facility that netted the company $22 million.
Non-GAAP net income came in at $31 million. AMD's computing solutions (aka processors) sales fell from $841 million to $790 million versus the previous quarter, while graphics and visual solutions revenue soared from $320 million to $671 million in the same timeframe. The large increase in GPU sales is thanks to AMD's deals with Microsoft and Sony for the next-gen consoles, AMD stated that that sales of GPUs for PCs fell sequentially and year-over-year.
AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced revenue for the third quarter of 2013 of $1.46 billion, operating income of $95 million and net income of $48 million, or $0.06 per share. The company reported non-GAAP operating income of $78 million and non-GAAP net income of $31 million, or $0.04 per share.
"AMD returned to profitability and generated free cash flow in the third quarter as we continued to successfully execute the strategic transformation plan we outlined a year ago," said Rory Read, AMD president and CEO. "We achieved 26 percent sequential revenue growth driven by our semi-custom business and remain committed to generating approximately 50 percent of revenue from high-growth markets over the next two years. Developing industry-leading technology remains at our core, and we are in the middle of a multi-year journey to redefine AMD as a leader across a more diverse set of growth markets."

Saw this earlier. PC GPU sales down but helped by the consol GPUs. It will be interesting to see NVs figures.

All they really need to do now is make their CPUs as compelling as their other products and it'll be complete win.

I'm really glad about this. Intel take the biscuit with prices as it is, but they would be no end of bad worse if AMD weren't around :)

And yet they still cant produce a decent cpu that would take over from intel. The last time they done well on the cpu front was the A64 s939 range. But then intel introduced c2d/q, ever since that intel have dominated the choice for cpu's. My introduction to pc's was my first rig i built which was an s939 4000 on a k8n sli msi board. My first and only amd setup. They just dont appeal to me now. Ive had c2d/q, x58, ivybridge and now haswell. Id really love to see amd bring something better to the table. As end users, we need better competition in the market to keep pricing competitive.

Don't you mean black?
They still have debts (However the companies total assets outweigh the debts)

I was left thinking of either: Infringement with nVidia or drugs in one of their shipments. The latter would be a good earner. ;)

Now, lets see if they can put their new money into making a CPU.

If you knew the budget intel has and the monopoly of the market from the mass producing brands (i.e. Dell) you would understand without such a foolish comment. History has shown that AMD received a settlement in the billions (small change to intel) and gets bullied by the big boy in the real world.

To produce a chip to rival the company is not an easy task. You should be thankful there is someone to challenge intel as competition makes the prices better for consumers generally speaking.

Snip from the NYT:
The agreement between the two Silicon Valley companies mainly covers A.M.D.’s claims that Intel rewarded computer makers that used only Intel chips and punished those who bought from A.M.D. Intel contends that it never engaged in tactics to exclude A.M.D. from the marketplace but agreed in the settlement not to do so in the future.

Still no one buying their CPUs lol
you'ed be surprised how many people are with the new consoles being 8 core, people seem to think the amd 8 core cpu's are suddenly going to become much better optimized. which it is to a point. saying that i just went intel :D

each company has its strengths in certain area. Looks like AMD have the consoles sown up for example and for their price point then provide a good price to power ratio - esp if you take the APU's into consideration.

So I have two lads with PC's and they both got the Richland chip and it didnt cost me a fortune and they can play anything they buy and they understand that they tweak the graphics settings to get the best out of it

It not just a world where the best is the fastest

Good they deserve it for keeping prices reasonable while Nvidia try to take the p*** as much as possible. Just need to release some competitive CPU's now...

They already have, at every price level other than the "Bend over and take this lovely blue willy" bracket.

I've been looking at benchmarks today and it seems to get the most out of the BD/PD AMD cpu's you need to be running Win 8. Quite a nice jump in performance compared to Win 7.
