What to Know?

AFMF is a state-of-the-art frame generation technology exclusive to AMD. It enhances frame rates and gameplay smoothness and is integrated into AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition™. As part of AMD HYPR-RX, our one-click performance solution, it delivers exceptional gaming experiences on AMD Radeon graphics cards.

How to Enable

  • AFMF 2 can be enabled for any OpenGLNEW, VulkanNEW, DirectX® 11, and 12 title using HYPR-RX or the AMD Fluid Motion 2 Toggle.
    • AFMF 2 currently requires the game to be played in exclusive or borderless fullscreen mode with V-SYNC disabled.
      • For a better visual experience, use AFMF 2 with a variable refresh rate-enabled display.
        • Enabling Radeon™ Chill after AFMF will automatically set the FPS cap to reduce tearing.
      • Use the in-game overlay (ALT+R) in AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition™ to check AFMF’s frame generation status.
    • AFMF 2 adds frame generation technology to boost FPS outside the game’s engine. Users can enable the AMD Software Performance Metrics Overlay to see the resulting FPS.

How to Optimize

  • AFMF 2 introduces new modes that are automatically tuned for the best experience based on your configuration. These can be manually adjusted to your preferences if needed
    • AFMF 2 adds a new “High” Search Mode setting for improved frame consistency during fast motion, enabled by default for resolutions of 2560x1440 and above.
      • This reduces the jittering or stuttering encountered with AFMF 1 at higher resolutions.
    • AFMF 2 adds a new Performance Mode setting to reduce frame-generation overhead, enabled as “Performance” by default for integrated graphics products.
      • Integrated graphics users may switch back to the “Quality” performance preset for better frame-generation quality during fast motion. The “Quality” preset is the default when using discrete graphics cards.
      • Users can manually enable this “Performance” mode on discrete graphics cards to hit even higher frame rates when GPU bound to maximize the FPS uplift.
    • Users can find these tuning options within the “Advanced View” of HYPR-RX.

Multi-GPU Configurations

  • For any hybrid-graphics configuration, AFMF 2 will use the displaying GPU for frame generation, allowing the render GPU to focus on the game.

What’s Next?

We are continuously refining HYPR-RX with AFMF 2, using feedback from gamers across thousands of games to drive innovation. Join the conversation by sharing how well AFMF 2 is working on your system.

Fixed Issues

  • AFMF may become inactive after enabling certain on-screen overlays.

Known Issues

  • Performance metrics overlay may intermittently report N/A after task switching with certain display configurations.
  • Baldur's Gate 3 may experience an app crash on AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series Processors.
  • Intermittent driver timeout may occur after opening the Xbox Game Bar while AFMF 2 and RSR is active with certain Vulkan games.

Early impressions are positive to say the least!

This is a huge upgrade from FMF1 to 2.

Frame gen in every game from entry level handhelds/Z1 Extreme/laptops/apu's/dgpu just got a whole, whole lot better for AMD users.

Been running this on Starfield for the past few days at 1440p with my 6700xt and it’s made quite a difference. It actually looks ok, tho the crosshairs definitely have artefacts if you stop and look at them. Definitely going to keep using it.
FMF2's strength is-versatility, it covers the whole range from handhelds to top end, and you are clearly seeing the benefits of what AMD's driver level frame gen brings to the table.:thumbsup

Anyone else had a chance to try these drivers yet?
Yes, discussed here:

Been playing Ascent using AFMF2(DLSS exclusive), works extremely well.

Quadrupole frame rates with frame gen and AMD Fluid Motion Frames. Benchmarking Black Myth Wukong first without the in game frame gen, then with and then with AMD's driver level frame gen, the result is going from 30 FPS, to 60 FPS and to 120 FPS with AFMF.AFMF doesn't register on the Riva Tuner OSD on the left because its a post render AI frame gen tech at the AMD driver level, the AMD OSD on the right displays the final frame rate render output.

Start: Frame Gen off
3:00 Frame Gen On
6:30 AFMF On.

I done a bit of FG and FG+AFMF in game testing with AFOP using custom settings back when it launched and the fps you could reach is quite incredible tbh.

Maybe do a revisit with FMF2.

looks like multi-gpu is making a comeback (albeit in a very narrow sense):

Multi-GPU Configurations

Seems like a tidy way to sell twice as many GPUs :D

Or, perhaps less cynically, to give old GPUs lying in the cupboard a new lease of life!
I'm thinking along the lines of onboard 6/7 series AMD gfx(FMF2 output) running mgpu with say a 3060(or higher) discrete eg laptop/apu use.

Using an older GPU in multi GPU would give poor results imo as the GPU running FMF2 wouldn't be rendering, it would be the old GPU doing that job

@Stanners
Any chance we can get this thread moved here?:

Thanks

I might be wrong but i thought i saw someone or some website say you can use this on vlc player to get smoother video playback, tho ive installed latest drivers added vlc as a game in the profiles area, enabled afm2 and tried a ep of auf weirdersien pet but doesnt seem any different. Did i do something wrong or is it not possible to make it like 60fps or something? Or is that locked to 7xxx cards, im on a 6700xt using a 1080p 60hz tele as monitor isnt working atm.
Don't think that's an FMF feature???

Going from the link above:

While AFMF 2 is the main change of note with the latest AMD driver, there are additions, too, such as Geometric Downscaling. AMD explains, "When videos are being played in a window that is smaller than the native resolution, Geometric Downscaling helps reduce visual artifacts and aliasing, allowing for smoother video quality."

'AMD explains' lol.

Would like to hear some more stories about using AFMF 2 in games, particularly at 1440p and 4K.

How is it working out for people?

My own impression so far, is that it is not a gimmick, because of the wide support for this feature and it’s ease of use.
@4K 65" QDOled.

Much more likely to enable FMF2 than I would FMF as there's been big improvements.

Been enabling FMF2 via hotkey when SWO decides to randomly make 69fps feel like 24 fps.

Don't know what's going on in the game but FMF2 saves you from quitting and losing level progress when you restart the game.

FMF2 made The Ascent a far more fluid experience although stopped playing it when I got fed up of the grind in a highly repetitive game.
