AMD Llano A8-3870 being released with unlocked multiplier!!

wouldn't be surprised to reach 4.5GHZ with good cooling, don't think they scale as well as Phenom II's though, cause if I remember correct Phenom II's get faster as the L3 cache and CPU-NB are sped up with overclocking, more so than Athlon IIs and the L3 makes a difference in some applications and games so can't understand why one would go with Llano over Phenom II? unless your planning on using the onboard graphics or hybrid crossfire.

Are you saying it is the same as An Athlon II x4 with unlocked multi? I don't understand why you quoted that? Are you saying that is a bad thing or good thing? More discussion would be welcome :)

Llano is all about the great IGP. The CPU is just a slightly tweaked Athlon II X4 that performs somewhere in between an Athlon II X4 and Phenom II X4.

Trinity, Llano's successor, will feature an even better IGP and Bulldozer modules for the CPU part.

when is trinity released ? I dont know wether to go i5 2500k and 6870 - or wait and see what can be accomplished with a trinity

It seems that a few retailers in the UK and Germany have put these up for pre-order. At least in the US and Germany the price of the A6-3670K and A8-3870K seems similar to the A6-3650 and A8-3850. One UK retailer has seems to have high pre-order pricing, but hopefully most retailers will follow the relative pricing in the US and Germany.

Perhaps this will placate those who were bemoaning the other day about the departure of the Phenom II & Athlon II and how it was going to herald in an era where there was no sub £100 quad core, overclockable CPU's.

We're going to be stuck with the choice between i3 and FX4 at the £100 mark soon, a dual core with HT versus a quad core that performs like a dual core... no more great value quads.

A dark age is upon us. :(

Shame really :(

I just managed to bag a Phenom x4 965BE from the MM.

definately a shame, loved phenom II.
