Behind you... Naked!
This is something that is really getting on my pip now.

I have recently been given a Packard Bell E3242.

Its basically an XP2400, 256MB, 40GBHD so, not too bad, but the thing only runs at 600mhz

Is there any way that I can lock that CPU to run at its correct stock speeds instead of this waste of time speeds of 600Mhz?

The BIOS is, as Packard Bells usually are, total pap, gives nothing that I can use ( Nothing obvious anyway ) to clock the CPU, so, Im kind of stuck.

I will not be running this junk off the battery so power consumption isnt an issue, but this thing is simpkly no good at an recent Linux, nor can it run XP or even 2K at any convincing speeds, and so I have put 98SE onto it and its fine there, but I would just love to run it at its proper speed, instead of this power saving lie.

is cool'n'quiet on? There should be a bios option for it. Try running prime 95 while you check the clock speed, it should go back to stock when it is being used. I'd leave it on if it is a lappy to be honest, if not for power, then for heat reasons. It doesnt usually cause too many performance issues.

The BIOS is absolutely useless, there is no options in the BIOS for C&Q at all...

Although the BIOS does indeed display the CPU is an 1800MHZ CPU, thats all it does.

Its perhaps the most useless BIOS I have seen so far.

Causeing any performance issues?

This thing is permanently stuck at 600MHZ - It should run at 1800 but only knock down to 600 when its idle... But its stuck at 600 100% of the time?

Yes, loaded its also at 600 too! ( Prime, Folding, Benchtests - all still unbudged at 600 )

Is it possible for the CPU so somehow lock itself in at 600?

Hang on...

I just run upstairs as the XP2500 in an old setup is a Mobile CPU and I put that into the LapTop and its fine!!!!!

I will take the 2400 upstairs and play about with it on a normal PC, but the XP2500 is running fine in the LapTop as it is 1800MHZ

Until I know WTF the 2400 is doing, I cant know much more than ... ERM?

Cheers dude.
