So i went back from AMD to Intel today, reason being as i did have the new phenom II but it cra$$ed out on me for some unknown reason, got my money back though.
Got a few new things in my sig and it performs better and i know it wont go wrong, i think i'm cursed when it comes to AMD :p , never had an AMD setup thats stable.

A bit unfair.. :0 Had an Opty170 running for years overclocked and it's still good now. Got a 3700+ in one of the kids machines (also clocks well). Only gone to Intel now as it ws the best thing going at the time...

AMD is a good cheap option for some & previous user error should Not put people off ;)

Coming from an Intel Quad user :p

how do you know it was the amd cpu, could be motherboard ram gfx sound psu.. any combination of these their drivers or a gone wrong windows install :)

good luck with new pc anyway

I knew it was the CPU as i tried it in my brothers board and my friends board and it was a dud, figured id go back to intel as ive never had any problems with them :)

i decided to go AMD in 2001...i had nothing but bsod even after reinstalling many times...i will never ever go AMD again....one of my friends had a lot of trouble with AMD about 3 years ago....now he has an intel and will never go back...you get what you pay for:)

Did you update latest BIOS for support the CPU?? Im still using AMD since June 2007 (Socket AM2 and run at 6400+ 3.2Ghz) it all prefect running - no crashing,etc.. it very good as cheaper.

Im stay with AMD and never ever go back to Intel... Im still using AM2 just now until 2010 when Windows 7 is coming and I buy upgrade to new AM3..

I loved my old 3400+. Never had a problem and kicked the pants off any Intel offerings at the time. I went with Intel this time because the Core 2s are wonderful and again, I've had no issues.

What utter pish.

Never had any problems with AMD cpus, all overclocked, even my Duron 600 ran at 1GHz with a failed heatsink fan until I realised what the beeping was all about... still after it cooled down it worked again.

You can't blame AMD for dodgy drivers, dodgy motherboard or .... your inability to properly setup the system.

I have a K6-3 AMD and ALi mobo that sat in a box with loads of junk stacked on top of them, I powered them up after 7 years idle and it worked without a hitch, sold it on ebay just last year in fact.

If it wasn't for AMD producing good chips at low prices think how much the Intels would cost. It all goes in cycles anyway, maybe AMD will be top dog soon.

nothing wrong with amd. they make great chips. yes sometimes theres afew bad/poor/fault chips but thats the same with intel too. u can't blame amd for afew fault chips.

It wasn't that long ago AMD had higher yields and lower failure rate, I've not checked recently so I can't say what the current standing is but Intel used to be the 'unreliable one'.

Considering how many millions of these complex little devices are out there, I don't think either company is doing particularly badly!

So err... the one common denominator is... you?

This tbh.

I've never had a faulty CPU and, despite non-deliberate attempts, I've never killed one either. I'd find it much more likely that one could be completely DOA than actually work but be buggy and cause crashes. That said it's very rare we ever here of DOA processors on here, even rarer where the route cause of someone's problems is pin pointed to the processor alone.

I'd go so far as to say that the odds of one person getting consistently buggy processors from a single manufacturer over a number of years are so incredibly low that it would never happen.

I have 2 AMD systems(old) and 1 Intel, all work fine. Will prob be getting a AMD system next as i went intel this time (assuming they keep up).
