AMD "Never Settle" 12.11 Driver - benchmarks

Well I spoke to soon the crashes and lock ups have started.:(

My lower card is randomly stopping completely,
swapped cards over and the same happens.

Pity really as everything was looking good.

So it looks like a X79 mobo issue with AMD cards running
Eyefinity as others reported.

That's not the news I wanted to hear at all, does it all still work with the RC11 drivers ?

asus only boards x79 or others also?
I know asus had some issues due to some bug introduced.

I believe AMD have said it's an issue with all X58/X79 boards.

My 7970 Matrix (single) works fine on new driver with Maximus V Formula

yea seems a crossfire/eyefinity issue mainly.

It's also only an issue that affects X79 boards. I believe the Maximus V Formula is a Z77 isn't it?

Just an update from the ROG forums

Have you actually read the rest of the thread? The nVidia cards don't issue invalid PCIe transaction completion codes that cause a complete system lockup because nVidia got their GPU's bus interface logic correct. The issue only affects LGA1366 / LGA2011 processors as per Intel erratum. I've verified this is root cause by hauling my system into work and reproducing the fault with a Tektronix PCIe analyser installed on the bus (I'm a chip engineer). I don't believe it's fixable.

There's more posts following this but it's not looking good, just cancelled my block order for the Lightnings and will probably go for 3x 670 4GB.

AMD may be able to fix the issue but if it's a GPU/Chipset issue rather than drivers then there's no guarantee of a fix.

I had issues with those too - crashes and lockups

Sorry to hear that mate :(
Part of me was still tempted to try it and see, don't think I will now.
X79 has been a bit of a disappointment for me, first no official PCI-e 3.0 (I know quite often it will work) and now this. Z77 would probably have been a better option for me in retrospect!

What gets me is why it takes so long for the fault to appear

Really thought it was sorted, everything was running like a dream.

I now have a choice -

a- return the cards if I can as retailer might not accept them

b- go Z77 and sell my X79 system

yea if its correct. either buy Nvidia cards or sell the system and get a z77 or such instead..I wait for amd to offically respond tho before making a decision.

I'm waiting for my cable broadband to be hooked up before reformatting completely and starting from scratch.

Hoping the 12.11 finals are out by then :).

Well, the first of the 7950's I ordered arrived today.... can't even get it into the SG03 - LOL

Being exactly the same length as the GTX 670's apparently, though would at least get it in, but thought my issue may be running crossfire.

Out of curiosity, in the mean time, stuck the 7950 in other halfs pc and got both my gtx 670's in the SG03 as was not sure I had ever actually run them both in the case.

Top card starts going north of 90C even with SLI disabled, so obviously I was being a little ambitious trying to go dual card in this case.

Such a pity as I like the case, but as I could not even get one single 7950, I have some other cheapo matx case coming tomorrow.

Damn, even Beta 8 doesnt work on my crossfire 6770/5770 setup. Played around and each card works fine on its own, just reboots when crossfire is enabled. Since its been a few betas without a fix, I filled in a issue report with AMD. Hopefully its fixed before the final, else I'm screwed!!

Just in case: I think the top card must be the 6770, in such a situation.

IIRC the 12.11 performance upgrade was only effective on the GCN or 7xxx series cards. You'd not see the improvements.
