AMD Opteron 170 (Denmark) ..a sensible upgrade for my current A64 4000 ( socket 939)?

My system's limited by a socket 939 mobo and am currently running an A64 4000 ...

Been ok so far but slowly starting to show its age in video editing apps and some (high end) games ..

was thinking of upgrading to a Dual Core 4800 but can't really find any

was browsing the net and notices that a lot of Opteron 170s are using and clocked to run at higher frequencies (since apparently there is a lot of potential) instead of the X2 Athlons ..

so thinking of switching over to an Opteron 170 and clocking it at around 2.6 - 2.8Ghz (just form the BIOS, without increasing voltage) .. would that be a sensible upgrade? Do only Opterons wtih Toledo core clock well or Denmark core?

cheers

i have an opty 170 @2.9GHZ - dual prime stable

CCBBE 0615EPMW

upgraded from an opty 146 @ 3ghz

personaly i did not see any notisable diffrence but all i do it play games

hope that helps a bit

Just upgraded myself from a 4000+ to an Opteron 180.

Though no real improvement in games (but then again did not expect it). Just gives me a bit of future proofing (hopefully) for when games start to utilise multi cores. And last upgrade I can make on this mobo.

If you fancy it, grab it now, as stocks seem to be going down all round for socket 939 CPU's (not surprising I suppose).

Same stepping here and I'm at 2.8GHz on stock volts. The 07xx xxxx Optys are supposed to go even higher (3GHz) without any extra volts so get one of those is possible.
