The stock cooler should be fine for 2.4ghz, and the Freezer Pro is better than the stock, is it seated correctly? Did you use thermal paste?

ive redone it and its still hiting 40c to 45c at idle
ive also used some AS its seating just of 1 side not much tho

it could be my setup ie case and fans, i will just have to keep an eye on it atm and play about with it

What motherboard are you using?

Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe

could it be a bad reading of the temperature sensor on the heatsink and fan?

i could test the heatsink and fan on another pc see if its that? maybe

Good plan, it could just be a dodgey heatsink. With a heatpipe heatsink not performing as it should I always wonder if the heatpipes are actually working :)

i sorted it now used my m8s HSF and it was fine, tried mine in his and it was hiting high temps. so im gonna swop it for another

thx for the help guys

I had a dodgy freezer Pro. (Stil in my box of discarded bits actually).

Contact was absolutely dreadful. Very visible machine marks on base.
Probably just needs some polishing but very dissapointing out of the box.

Big Typhon when fitted was about 12c cooler at stock iirc
