I found the AMD Opteron UP 150 San Diego 2.4GHz 1MB Cache at a very good price and i might buy it . is it worth the money though and does it overclock well ?

The 150 is the same core as the other Socket 939 Opterons, so (assuming the stepping is good) should perform equally well. It also has a higher 12x multiplier, which may make it slightly more flexible when o/c'ing it.

FYI Defcon5, the 150 is not a dual core.

I bought one of these. As a firt time overclocker i completly suck. The highest i got it was to 2.5 (lame huh) ive read all the threads about overclocking and i thought i had all my settings correct but no luck. Any suggestions?

Tell us exactly what you've done so far and then we might be able to help;).
Have you put yout ram on a divider? Have you lowered the HT muli to 4 or 3?

Right... Ive set the memory to 166 and the memory voltage to 2.7

Cpu multi down from 12 to 10 and the htt multi of 4

then i increased the fsb from 200 upwards till 2.5

i wanted to get it to 2.8-3.0 i have too many fans in the case and im using ac 64 freezer which had good reviews (this should keep it cool enough).

Any advice will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

So your HTT multi is still at 4*. This may be the problem. General guidelines say keep total HT bandwidth to lower than 1000. You have 250*4 = 1000. Try dropping HT multi to 3* and see what happens:)

edit: Also try either loosening your RAM timings or going for a lower divider like 133 just for now. If my calculations are correct, your RAM is currently at about 207mhz, which shouldn't really be the max capable speed, but give it a shot and see if the ram is limiting you. Have you manually set your ram timings in BIOS or left them on 'auto'? Try forcing them to the rated settings. :)

I left my ram timings on auto as i havent read anything about this (yet)

I will try your suggestion tonight fingers crossed.

With the ram timings is there ia place where i can find the best settings or is it a case of trial and error?

DO NOT try trial and error to start with. Assuming you have Geil Value, then these are your recommended timings: CAS 3.0 8-4-4. Don't fiddle with them until you've got your highest FSB. So to be sure I'd just knock it onto the 133 divider for now. Later on you might be able to get it back to the 166.

A BIOS update is a good place to start whan all else fails. Have a look to see which version you are running and then at the DFI site to see what updated versions are available. Also the guys over at dfi-street have come up with some very good custom made BIOS' which people are raving about.

Is that a dual core?
I know that gets me every time :)

Opteron 144 1.8GHz
Opteron 146 2.0GHz
Opteron 148 2.2GHz
Opteron 150 2.4GHz

Its because it doesn't start with a 14x and also there are so many different codes these days!

Well i was trying last night and even though the pc boots up fine, prime 95 will still not start saying hardware failiure. I think i may be missing out somthing. As i do not fully understand what everything is yet I figured id tell you all (most) of the settings i have in BIOS on default And see what you all think. And yes its geil 3200 value. Wouldyou suggest getting differnt ram?
