Ok i am thinking about upgrading to a dual core. im on amd 3700 atm.

i was just wondering, which are better at stock, AMD or intel?

reason is im going to be using an aspire x-q pack case and an m-atx board and there isnt enough room for a decent enough cooler for overclocking

not looking to spend much more than $100 so its really either

or

so which is better :)

Yes, at stock its most often the AMD chips that are the better value parts, as in this case. The X2 6000+ is the right choice.

Indeed, AMD chips are bargain basement powerhouses.... Primarily because AMD have dumped the prices repeatedly just to avoid ending up with warehouses full of them.

But for a chip chip, for an end user who cant be bothered with much overclocking they offer the best bang for the buck.

Clock for clock however, intel wins hands down, 20-25% faster on average than K8's.
