I am currently looking to upgrade my, motherboard, CPU, and GPU. I've seen a lot of deals all over the internet, but I'm swaying towards the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard on OverClockers, but it is AMD and I use Intel at the moment. If I do go for this board, I'll put a AMD Bulldozer FX-6 6200 Black Edition 3.8GHz Socket AM3+ 8MB L3 Cache in it. I need your opinions! These are my current specs;

Intel Core i3 2100 3.10GHz Socket 1155 3MB L3 Cache
Asus P8H61-M LE/USB3 Intel H61 Socket 1155 8 Channel HD Audio mATX
MSI HD 6850 OC Edition
Cooler Master HAF 912

Am i right in thinking you don't need a new Motherboard for a socket 1155 i5 3570K?

If so why bother? just get the 4 core K chip, its certaily better than an FX-6200.

Sell the i3 and the 6850, add it to the saved money and Use it to get yourself an AMD 7850 GPU or better....

For gaming performance, you would be much better of just upgrading from your i3 2100 to a non-K i5 or i7 than spending a lot more money side/downgrading to the AMD platform.

You've already got a socket 1155 motherboard - Just go for i5 3570k and you can use the same motherboard. That'll save you a good £90 that you can put towards upgrading your GPU or adding a SSD.

This is not an option, I'm afraid. I want a new motherboard. I'm going to give my old motherboard and CPU to my Mum. I've already promised them both to her. The GPU is fine for now, but I want to learn about overclocking and I'll need a motherboard and CPU capable of that. I've always wanted an ASUS Sabertooth and I only bought my current motherboard to save money on my build. I'm not a fan of MATX boards anymore.

Intel's Sabertooth is £50 more expensive, as you no doubt know.

I have the Asus Sabertooth 990FX, it is a brilliant board.....

But, the 3570K is a far better CPU than the FX-6200, to match the 3570K from AMD you will need an FX-83##, and even then some old DX9 games like Arma2 and WoW still run much better on the 3570K, Hell even the i3 is at least as good for such games.

If you play BF3, COD, and the like... there is no difference between them, most normal Desktop apps its also about the same overall give or take depending on how many threads...

So you could switch to AMD and get a solid rig, but you do need to look at the FX83## (Piledriver) not the FX-61## (Bulldozer) the 3 donates Piledriver and the 1 donates Bulldozer.

Failing the FX-83##, the very least should be an FX-63##

Correct.
Every single desktop 1155 chip should work on every consumer desktop 1155 board.
Even the 1155 Xeon's.

Would this do any better then?

Just upgrade your 6850 to a 7850, no need to change anything else and see how you get on.

If you then are not happy with performance upgrade your cpu to a 2500k or 3570k.

I've already promised my Mum she can have my motherboard and CPU, mate. This was the whole reason for this thread. Do I stick with Intel and get an Intel board and CPU or go AMD?

Seems a whole load of wasted money to me.
Also echoing the1gooner's point about your GPU.

Buy your mam a Pentium G620 and give her the board you currently have, buy yourself a decent board and a 7850 and then upgrade your CPU when you can.
Everyone wins.

I'm going to upgrade my motherboard and CPU. If anyone has any ideas on what I should buy, I'd be very grateful. AMD or Intel? It doesn't have to be an ASUS Sabertooth board. I just really like the look of them. With all this AMD bashing, I'm starting to lean back towards Intel.

It is very nice, but you can't get yellow LED fans.
