I don't know which one to go with, AMD or intel, I only need the power supply mother board and cpu, i have a budget of £300.

I'm mainly going to be using my computer for gaming and photo editing.

If you were in my position what would you go for, AMD or intel?

Other than budget my only restriction is a duel channel ram system as I have already ordered it, although I could get another stick if the system is right.

Thanks

Hi there,

May I ask what graphics card you will be running with this system? - as that will determine what level of power supply you will need.

Also, do you plan on overclocking the CPU?

Sandybridge 2500K and a £100 mobo comes to about £300 and takes the dual memory, only thing that AMD have is the X6 which is now 2 generations behind in real terms.

The 4 core with no HT 2500K should be able to overclock to 4.2+ and is a great bit of kit, just matters how comfortable you are buying one now knowing a new better revision will be out in 6 months, also Bulldozer will be releasing around then hopefully.

For gaming a quad is the sweetspot (well its tricore :)).

you can get intel with that budget, so go for the best cpu/mobo you can get with whats left after getting a 600+ branded PSU

Little over budget, you could get a H67 mobo isntead, but that will mean no overclocking at all. If you can stretch to like, £355 you could get yourself a Asus P8P67 which would be much better for OCing. If you are literally having £300 as a hard upper limit Id get a normal I5 2500 or 2400 and an H67 board, best stock system, but no overclocking. Id highly recommend saving that extra £50 and getting an asus p8p67 (pro or deluxe if you ant multi GPU) and an I5 2500k.

If you are planing to overclock, you might want to bear in mind that a lot of SB chips went pop. I know that it should be ok with the guide that OCUK has put up, but worth mentioning.
