I know this question has been asked many times before, but I've seen so many people switching from nvidia to amd recently with there newer cards being considerably cheaper and on par with or better performance wise, plus the addition of mantle aswell and this freesync down the line.. So is nvidia still the more popular choice for gamers or would you say it's pretty even? Or is amd the more popular now ?

I personally am an amd guy :) ...

I haven't notice anyone moving to AMD?

I'm not after a new card I was just wondering which you guys preferred really .. I've seen loads of people switching recently , probably only because of the price for performance like..

How many times does a thread get made with this topic and do you not see it as an attempt to open a can of worms?

I jumped ship to AMD. No complaints.

To avoid the standard AMD vs Nvidia kerfuffle, I would say just buy what suits your needs it all comes down to your budget and needs. Each have their pros and cons and various price points.

I buy the best performing card that I can afford for my circumstances - for the last few years that's been 3 screen gaming (now with a 4th monitoring screen) and I've ended up with AMD cards as the equivalent Nvidia was more expensive.

For my little LAN gaming PC, I am running an Nvidia card (refurbished GTX460) simply because that was the best performing card for my price range when I happened to be looking.

I don't think it's as simple as "AMD or Nvidia for gaming" there's no right answer, it's a lot more "which card for £xxx for gaming at xxxx by xxxx" and the answer will probably change every release/price revision.

I thought that when I read the title.

It only appeared to look that way because when the 290 and 290x was released that was the majority of the threads consisted of, discussion over the newly released cards.

Wilko_Dog you are better off checking and joining this thread.

What Graphics Card Do you Own?

AMD edge it but only just.

Whats interesting is 12% own both.

Haha I'm not attempting to open anything was just merely wondering what everyone's thoughts were :) like to read different peoples views and opinions :)

Ah that's what I was looking for I'll check that thread out cheers !

For those in the know, it seems to be about meeting requirements.
For those outside, it seems to be about budget (with the occasional bang-for-buck among those slightly in the know).
The general advice seems to be that all cards are pretty much on a par with their opposites and almost any will be OK, unless you need/want to start overclocking them.

I'm personally considering an Nvidia one, simply for bang-for-buck along with a few minor requirements. I'd have thought myself a 'happy with AMD' level of fanboy, but clearly not!

I moved to amd from nvidia.
Allways had nvidia but this time thought i would give amd a go.
No problems with the change and saved some £££

Boils down to this pretty much

Amd:

Better value for money in terms of raw performance
Mantle
Eyefinity
Current reference models are like volcanoes
Non-reference models are like warm cat's

Nvidia:

Less value for money in terms of raw performance
Physx
3d vision
Shadowplay
Current reference models are like warm cat's
Non-reference models are like ice cubes in whiskey

I have just pointed out what is currently available as both companies are announcing new stuff all the time but until those new and interesting things are out they dont really matter :)

I personally would never get a reference card because if you wait a couple to a few week's you will get a much better deal with better temp's and performance for the same or very little extra money (or a lot of extra money and you get an amazing custom super version :) )
