AMD or Pentium Dual-core

Please for the love of sanity get a 4200 X2 939. You can just drop it into your current system and keep your current RAM and motherboard. Saves so much hassle and money.

my current board is only a Socket 754, no dual-cores for this board unfortunatelly

Get the Gigabyte GA 965P-S3 which im getting. Lots of features and is ~£70 from OcUK.

Link?

The 4200 X2 outperforms the Pentium D by absolutely miles. AMD ruled the benchmark, gaming and enthusiast arena from 2003 to last year which is when C2D was released.

But, if you want to be upgrade to something that owns them both, go for the pentium now and get a C2D in a few months when prices are down even more. Or wait until next year when they'll be about £45 for the E6300, the same way that the AMD chips have gone.

good cooler for overclocking an E6300?
Tuniq tower, Zalman 9700, Scythe Ninja, TTBT, etc... quite a few to choose from but the Tuniq is widely regarded as the best air cooler on the market at the mo! :)

so E4300 or E6300 @stock?

If you are leaving them at stock i would suggest going for the AMD. You then have Barcelona as a drop in replacement which should be sooooooooo fast.

Even even mild overclocking at the moment it has to be the C2D.
