give me much of an improment over my now ageing q6600 most of what I do is game play video encode & Database build bits of programming.
I want to get an updrade before xmass as my now system will go to other use.

Providing whatever software you're using for encoding has decent multi-core support, it should be a worthwhile upgrade. with the database/programming stuff it depends how CPU intensive it is really.

I don't think a Intel® Core™2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.5GHz needs upgrading . . . . sit it out till the next gen stuff arrives if your looking for a complete upgrade!

I would probably not upgrade your system TBH. AMD Bulldozer and Intel Ivy Bridge are being released at the end of next year AFAIK.

Yeah I would advise against upgrading but if your current CPU/motherboard/etc are going to be used elsewhere and you need a new set, an X6 would be a good choice. Why get the 1100T though when the 1090T can be had for much less (this week at least)?
