AMD overscan problem - annoying

I had black borders round my screen when I plugged into HDMI on my radeon 5770, so i went and adjusted the overscan. Problem is, when i adjust it to 0%, i get a nice sharp picture as desired but the edges of the screen are cut off (basically, the image is now too large for the screen rather than too small). If i set overscan to 5% then the image fits correctly on my screen, however it is blurred, as if i were running it at the incorrect resolution.

so basically, i can choose between either filling my screen with a blurred image, or having a sharp image but cutting off the edges (including most of the taskbar). I don't really understand why this is happening, analog worked fine so why is HDMI screwing up. Any help google could give me was just people saying "put overscan to 0%" so obviously i had to resort to asking here. (not that you guys are my last resort, just that i like trying to solve something myself rather than ask someone's help without trying). can anyone tell me how to fix this?

ps. sorry if wrong forum for thread, wasn't quite sure if this should be in "software"

Are you connecting to a computer monitor or a TV?

This. Sometimes TVs also have an overscan feature too, so you also would need to fiddle with the TV settings. I had this happening with my TV too, had to fiddle both CCC and TV overscan settings.

Monitor in my sig, it's a good monitor. Interestingly my friend had the same problem with his 6950 so he switched to using analog. I am using the same HDMI cable that he no longer needed. I can't see the cable being the problem, can you? Our monitors are both similar and made by samsung so i guess it could be a specific issue to these monitors, but most likely it's a software issue with AMD's drivers.

Resize the image using the monitor's controls? (most monitors even have an "Auto" button which will generally do this).

Trololol, never mind I just fixed it. For anyone else who has the same problem, this is the solution:

1) set monitor to native res
2) set overscan to 0%
3) set monitor to "PC" mode - mine was in "AV" by default. Silly me.

Thanks for the help guys :D
