There is a lot going on with the AMD CATALYST drivers at the moment.

They seem to be getting lots wrong, well maybe a bit harsh but they get the 11.11 then a then b and so on but things are not getting better are they ?

So would it be a good idea for AMD to release specific drivers for each game, Say you play mainly BF3 then you would download the BF3 CATALYST driver if you play mainly Skyrim then you download AMD Skyrim biased CATALYST driver.

I know there will be a lot of you that have loads of games and maybe you play them all, I seem to play 2 games off and on but game for me at the moment is BF3 "Maybe it's an age thing" i used to have loads of game i wanted to play but now i just play 1 or 2 so for me this idea would be a good thing!!

what do you guys think of this ???

Here's my take on it all, both camps have good / bad drivers, you only hear the bad stories from those that have issues. I don't see many topics titled "AMD/Nvidia drivers installed. All working OK". Know what I mean? :)

What we should be asking ourselves is, why are there these bugs in the first place? Surely games are developed and tested on both sets of cards. AMD and Nvidia. What I'm amazed at is some of the severity of the bugs (i.e. Flashing textures for example, which is a complete show stopper). Have they not heard of MoSCoW? How can that surely pass out of QC/QA?

I think companies need to start working more closely tbh. To have 2-3 big game releases recently (Rage / BF3 / Skyrim) and then for them to need a "rushed" driver update from the graphics card companies is to me, the wrong way around. You'd think that the game makers would be the one's needing to release a patch, surely? EDIT: Seems like ATi / Nvidia need to be more Proactive instead of reactive!

The latest example, Skyrim and CF support. How that got released without working correctly just seems very lazy. What drivers did the game makers use on their systems? Are they all single GPU rigs? Should we maybes have a set driver added in the spec's on the box to say "runs with ATI 11.11" for example? I'd like to think they'd at least have single GPU rigs from both AMD and Nvidia and then CF/SLI rigs similar again.

I do like the whole unified driver approach, one driver fits all, it's the way it should be but I feel on the last few releases someone, somewhere, isn't doing their job as well as they could.

According to one of the beta testers it was profiled in beta form and crossfire was working, the game code was changed somewhat and the game needed to be reprofiled, but bethseda never sent ati final game code to get it up and running for release day.

meh =/

Firegod you are absolutely spot on.

Never had a problem with ATI drivers. Infact, the reason I switched from using Nvidia for so long was because the Geforce drivers gave me so much trouble!

I tend to just stick to what works, until a game is released that I really want to play suffers a major performance hit I will then go on the hunt for driver updates.

It just baffles me how every time AMD seem to fix one thing another breaks. Yes there are issues on both the green and red sides, but for every 1 Nvidia issue with a game there seems to be another 5 for AMD.

Currently still using 11.9 w/11.9 CAP4, everything I play atm works (Skyrim, MW3, Fifa12) so until Batman AC finally gets here later on in the week I have no reason to update.

Dont be confused by the a and b drivers.

They are alpha and beta builds which mean that when they finally do release a stable build it has already been field tested.

They do not release a and b drivers becuase they are trying to fix something in the stable release.

Hot Fixes on the other hand are quick repair drivers for specific things.

Nvidia do exactly the same thing.

I was saying pretty much the same thing in another forum.

Can't say I would like game specific drivers, and having to download and install and swap back and forth etc.

Don't know if something could be implemented however that would allow a universal driver, but also have a driver library where you could download and install game specific drivers and then switch back and forth?
