Hi Guys,

Currently got one of these on H50 water cooling but not overclocked, i was wondering if it would make a considerable difference to gaming if i overclocked it?

But also, would it be better if i went and bought a new Mobo and go Intel, maybe sandy bridge? Any thought?

If you are using it at 2.8GHz it may well be worthwhile exploring an overclock before you spend a fortune on SB.
What motherboard and ram have you?
I have a 3.5GHz overclock running 24/7 just by changing the bus speed from 200 to 250 and it goes up to 3.8GHz quite easily on my gigabyte mobo.

I have 4Gb OCZ Gold 1333mhz RAM and a Asrock 890GM Pro3 Socket AM3 motherboard but this might be changing next week to Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H AMD 880G

I would overclock your 1055T using your current mobo and when the AM3+ mobo's come out, get one of those. Then later on you could get a bulldozer CPU ;)

They will be faster, but by how much it is hard to say. It's a brand new architecture so no one know's apart from AMD.

Will the Bulldozer chips be a lot faster than the current AMD chips then?

in short, yes. just like the i5/i7 are a lot better than most skt 775. its a shame its not a BE as im under the impression you just up the multiplier and away you go pretty easy 3.8GHz-4GHz oc. a lot more tricky with the standard ones.

Ah ok, to the next problem, i dont know how to overclock!

well thats a lie i can get to 3.3ghz then i hit a wall! i dont know what to change

check amds website for your chip, it will tell you its max settings and its max vcore, you might just need to bump your vcore up a bit to get higher clocks.

You need to lower the ram multiplier as this could be your wall (235MHz bus?).

You need to check temps at each overclock use HWmonitor when running Prime95 small FFT.

Do not go over 62C I keep mine at 48C at 3.5GHz (Prime).

edit Mine is undervolted at 3.5GHz, therefore voltages on standard or auto should be fine.

Is the processor not safe over 62c? Currently mine on load goes to about 39C and idles around 25c so overclocknig it to 3.5 should be safe?

so yeh, looking at that you dont really want to be going over 50-55. whats your vcore on at the moment?

Im not quite sure, its still at its default setting but i think its 1.40v, but im not 100% sorry, ill check when im home

It means you can't go over 62. You can safely go right up to it, but not over.

What I have found however with Phenom II chips, is that the hotter it gets, the more unstable it is. 3.8ghz for me is stable at 1.5v at 50C, but at 55C it's unstable and I need 1.525v.
