I'm currently doing my first overclock and I'm wondering about temp sensors. I have only clocked it to 2.9Ghz by adjusting the multiplier. The BIOS is telling me it's around the high 30s / touching 40c (I'll reapply the thermal paste and heatsink later), but Hardware Monitor is telling me my temps on both cores are 13c.

Which should I believe? I'm more inclined to believe the BIOS.

Just recommended to me on irc. Which I've done. It's reporting the temps in line with the bios. Which is nice to know. 40c is much to high though for this heatsink. Going to reseat it and re apply thermal paste.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. 40C idle is fine for the 7850, considering it is a 65nm CPU...don't think you can get it much lower than that.

You should check your load temperature by using Prime95. It would be fine if it below 60C at max load.

So I've just done another round of Overclocking and couldn't get it stable. Whatever, I'm not concerned about the clock, I'm concerned about the temps. According to Speedfan, CPUID Hardware Monitor and Everest, my temps at idle are between 10-15 degrees C and under load, the mid 20s. However, powering off and quickly jumping into the BIOS, the hardware sensors in there is telling me that the temps are in the 40s. Which again, isn't a problem. My question is, just how reliable are these programs that are supposed to monitor temps? Or do I just have a chip with ****ty sensors?
