Hi everyone I have been reading the forum now for a few weeks, and have now plucked up the courage to overclock my cpu and ram.

here are a few details.
cpu Phenom 9550 2.2 (oc 2.527)
Ram 4Gb (2x2GB) DDR2 667MHz
PSU Gigabyte GE-R460-V1 460w
Mobo Foxconn a6vmx (most upto date bios)
geforce 8600fx 256mb

I have not found much info on the internet regarding my bios and how to overclock with it. the frequency was on 200 that i have changed to 230 that has gave me a nice 400mhz boost, but when i go higher the system crashes or if i increase the voltage i loose my video signal.

i have also tried to change my memory setting if i do i lose video no matter how much of a change i make..

When i loose video i have to move the cmos reset jumper.

oh i am using the stock cooling at the mo but have renewed the thermal pasted with high performance cool master. this reduced my cpu temp on idle from 56c to 40c. I read that the cpu max temp is 70c.

many thanks for reading and hope to hear from you all soon.

any help on either matter would be great full

i think the original phenoms dont overclock that well you would be best to get a phenom 2 and you will be able to get better speeds

Don't know what Phenom II CPU's it can takes, the foxconn page is a disgrace.

In 2009 it got an AM3 CPU update, but who knows what it can actually take.

OP, those CPU's really don't clock very well at all, just take it to about 2.5GHZ and stick with it till you upgrade CPU/Mobo.

Wouldn't want to be OC'ing on that board anyway in fear it takes me with it :p

i wanted to upgrade this computer in stages, so cpu first that can run on AM2 and AM3 motherboards. then to upgrade the MB to a AM3 or 3+ board and get ddr3 ram.

only about 200 pound

im sorta waiting out for amd's next processor although i do read that the buldozer should be better with windows 8. my upgrade route planning

cpu (am3) -> motherboard and ram -> graphics card -> bulldozer/piledriver-> am3+/am4 board

that is my upgrade route. with the fx processor i read that it is meant to be improved with windows 8.
atm just hoping to get the next stage up that is why looking for a am3 processor that will work with my board and a am3 board.
