The Phenom 9700 as tested today is competing relatively good with Intel's Q6600, yet that processor has been out for half a year already, yet AMD is fighting off bugs in it's CPU and mainboard platform. At this very moment, at the very least, the mainboards still have a number of bugs that need to be squashed, and this still has an effect on performance.

:)

well, there's some nice info in there from the tests but who the hell wrote that? parts of it are inaccurate and other parts are so badly written that it makes you question whether English is the authors first language...

I think they are dutch mate. :)

Hilbert (the owner of Guru3d) isn't English for a start.

So, essentially, its a more expensive alternative to an almost year old solution?

Brilliant AMD, just brilliant :(

I'm genuinely disheartened for them, although as always, the top dog see-saw will change ends again at some point, its just Phenom won't be the reason for the change in top-dog.

Known this for a long time, Phenom just can't compete. Intel have the reigns for the next few years now.

whats this ?? AMD arrive to the party 6 months late and have a slower product than whats already out there and its full of bugs and suks more power than the competition??

where have i heard all this before.??

If you had read the review...

and looking at it from a performance for wattage point of view we noticed that Phenom is definitely using less power than the 65-nm Intel products,

:D:p

im not gonna read that review, who is gonna buy a cpu thats has a shafted cache? im not touching it.

also phenom power consumption im comparing with penryn 45nm job. since thats going to be main competitor next month or so.

ah that explains it... excuse my ignorance... :o :)

thats not exactly fair considering the AMD part was built to compete against its 65nm rival. late or not, thats what it was built and designed for and thats where the comparison should be drawn until intels 45nm is here and in full swing.

Damn I like the look of that Overdrive software.

Unfortunately I think I am about 75% likely to switch to Intel this time round (and that pains me greatly, as I would love to support the underdogs and do my bit to keep prices down...but...).

I'd love to see Intel do this too.

What is the difference in power when you take in to account the AMD's onboard mem controller compared to Intel having them on the mobo?

I'm still considering buying a 9500 once the prices are down to what they should be and once there are some bios' out that aren't rubbish.

You can call it what you want, but I call it a disappointment.

Then there's the price issue, the 9500's are hard to come across cheaper than a well-priced Q6600... No matter how you play it at the moment, chances are an Intel system will be better if you're planning on spending more than £60 on a CPU.

No matter how you spin it, Phenom will be competing against Penryn for most of next year, Intel's 65nm products won't be mainstream for much longer after all. You know how Intel like to push their new tech, they'll probably make the 65nm processors seem like a downright stupid purchase...

The way I see the phenom "debate" if you will is, good power consumption and can overclock to 3Ghz. Hopefully later revisions will clock better. The Overdrive software as well looks really really good. Priced similar to the Q6600 but with slightly less performance. It's not a *bad* CPU, afterall it is the first native quad CPU available... it's just 6 months too late to the party. :( So I think it they could undercut Intel, then people would consider them more.

Got to agree. Lower the price

Imagine if it's the other way around, an English writes a tech review in Dutch up to the standard these guys did. Probably in a million years :)

AMD don't want to play that game since Intel can lower their price of their own CPU's aswell evening things out and in addition leaving AMD making less money which is a thing Intel won't have a problem losing some $ and getting AMD out of the CPU scene.
