AMD Phenom 9850 Power Query

With the recent price cuts on the 9850 I'm thinking about bringing the internals of my ancient AGP desktop up to speed, but am a bit concerned about the CPU's power draw (125W) and whether my PSU will be sufficient.

The prospective system will be:

- AMD Phenom 9850 with stock cooling
- Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H Motherboard
- 4GB RAM
- 1x ATI Radeon 4850 512MB
- 2x SATA HDD's
- 2x IDE Optical Drives
- 1x Expansion card (TV Card) & numerous 80mm fans
- Enermax EG465AX-VE (W) FCA 465W PSU

I won't be looking to overclock the 9850 at present, but may do so in future. Basically, is my current PSU likely to cope with this new setup?

Cheers,

BrynS

Ok, thanks. :)

Just had a look in the PSU manual and this is it's load range, but I don't how this would fare on the above system:

DC Output Load Current Range

DC O/P Load / Max / Min
+3.3V (Amps) / 35A / 0.3A
+5V (Amps) / 35A / 0.3A
+12V (Amps) / 33A / 1.5A
-5V (Amps) / 1A / 0A
-12V (Amps) / 1A / 0A
+5 VSB (Amps) / 2.2A / 0.1A

-Max continuous total DC output power shall not exceed 460W.
-Max combined output on +5V & +3.3V shall not exceed 200W.
-Intel ATX 2.03 / ATX 12V Ver 1.2 Compatible.

Hello Mate,

Although Your PSU should be ok I'm afraid so say that I don't think that motherboard supports the 9850 Black :(

I think it requires more power (4 phase?) than the motherboard can provide?

Its also on the gigabyte site as not supported :(

Sorry to be bringing bad news! I hope you have not purchased / ordered yet!

but the 9850 uses the same power (125w) as the 9750 which is supported. only differents is the HT and core speed.
