I will be using the stock cooler for this build, just curious. How many people use the already provided thermal paste/pad on the cooler? How many remove that and apply arctic silver 5 instead?

What is the best way to remove the paste/pad? As I asume it would be a bad idea to use that and arctic silver 5 together?

Thanks,

Majik/Jonny

I am not sure how you came to the conclusion that the standard HSF is crap. Yes if you plan to overclock you will soon go past the limits of the standard HSF but doesn't make it crap.

Anyway, the standard TIM should be fine to use. If you change it to any other you may get some gains over the standard, seems to usually be a couple degrees at most. Are you planning to overclock the cpu? If so then you really will need to get a better cooler.

The stock cooler and TIM is fine if you are not massively clocking your chip.

To be fair, it is a prett decent cooler for a stock one. I sold two earlier this year for a tenner each which goes to show they are not total rubbish.

Bit noisy though.

The stock cooler on my 965 idled at roughly 45 c. At load it would reach high 60's. Using a thermolab baram hs my temp is now 24 c idle.

I also found it very noisey.
