AMD Phenom II X 965 Memory

They are different modules, look at the picture of the bundled memory;

Compared to the ones that you linked to;

In the Product description it says "1 X Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit " which is what I linked to.
Its all very confusing.
Everything has changed sooo much.

It's the model number that counts.

The bundled memory is actually overclocked PC3-10666 designed to run at 1333Mhz 9-9-9-24 model number TW3X4G1333C9DHX

The memory you linked to is PC3-12800 1600MHz 9-9-9-24, model number CMX4GX3M2A1600C9

So, theoretically both are XMS3 4GB DDR3 @ PC3-12800C9 1600MHz, but are completely different modules.

Nice one, thanks both for clearing that up. I think I will just get the motherboard next and leave the ram until I have had a better look

The Intel memory would possibly work ok, but it is best to buy memory optimised for an AMD system (if it is an AMD system), particularly if you ever need official tech support from Corsair.

Get the 790FTXA.
i5 kits will work on AM3, however it's best off to buy 1600MHZ RAM with better timings.

This is why I thought it would be ok and I also read somewhere else that it would be ok. I will take your advice though thank you.

I will get the same stuff you originally linked me to. Its still Corsair

Ram will now be Corsair Dominator XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600C8D Twin3X
Mainboard will be Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5 (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3
GPU will be a 5850.
I'm having to buy when I can atm due to work, well lack of it in this weather.
Just about to get the Mobo.
